Default Damn

ok My car is now getting ready to be insured since it was put away and worked o for a while. Here is the story PLEASE HELP.

Ok so I usually listen to music while working on my car and one day I accidently listened to long and killed my battery. So i bomb started it and parked it. I did not listen anymore and had no time to charge it. I bomb started it maybe 5 times max.

one day I had just got suspension back together and finished up exhaust so i bomb started it and let it idle for about 20 min and drove around for 10 minutes.

I thought this was plenty of time to charge the battery.

I parked it came back yesterday ( 1 day later) and I turned the key and closed the sunroof as it slowly died and came to a halt. naturally I couldnt start the car

Now what I was wondering is. If your bat is 98% dead and you try letting your car charge it up wouldnt it just run your car off the alternator and not allow enough charge to charge your batt. cause cars used to drawing power from batt.??

Im going to take my battery over to my buddies house and charge it on his charger thing. then ill pop it in my car and im gessing it ll be problem free.

How do I check my battery?

By the way replaced battery about 2 months ago.

You can take the battery to most autoparts stores and they'll check and charge it for free.

I heard running your car with a dead battery is hard on the alternator because it has to charge all of the battery back up.

AHHH, mine take like two weeks or more!!! but they are for racing.

Is bomb starting like bump starting?

Check for a drain somewhere. disconect your battery when your car is off. Put a test light (or ammeter) with one terminal on the bat and one on the cable. If it is bright or more than a couple amps you have something staying on, or a leak. If you do I will tell you how to find it.

I used to work for Interstate Batteries as a warranty administrator, and I"ll tell you EXACTLY what to do...
1. check the state of charge(which is obviously dead)
2. check ALL the cells, which means opening the caps, and checking with a hydrometer(should be between 1250 and 1300 for a good state of charge, if less, then charge)
3. if you have a cell that is empty, fill it with acid or distilled water...and if you have a load tester, or access to one, use that, and if it fails load...you need a new battery.
4. Now finally, if you charge it and it doesn't pass a load test or doesn't hold a charge you obviously need a new battery...in my opinion, you should just get one anyway.

One more thing...NEVER EVER let your alternator charge you battery...it can't...in order to correctly charge a battery you need a trickle charge of no more than 5 amps...alternators put out about 65-130 depending on your application, so basically, if you've bump started it as many times as you said your battery is most likely shot...just get a new one, because letting the alternator charge a battery will just fry it...imagine trying to recharge a non-rechargable battery...it'll fry the battery...too much amperage...hope this helps...if you haven't already figured it out.

Yeah thatll help only thing is:

battery is 2 months old
Sealed battery no water caps and stuff.

my alt is high power 120 AMP alt.

So does your car run off the alt or battery when car running?

So what your saying is that your alt just keeps battery topped up with charge not charging it from bottom

you still need to put it on a charger for 3-4 hours to get a good charge. it will take days for your car alt to charge it fully, not to mention it will kill an alternator to charge a dead battery with it. good luck.

if the battery is dead, and only 2 months old...I'd try and see if there is a warranty on it...and also, when you charge it make sure it is a trickle charge 3-4 amps max...it'll take about 24 to 48 hours for a full charge...the fact that is sealed just means you can't check the spec. gravity of each cell, it should have a little 'eye' that is green when in a good state of charge or red(i think) when it is not...hope this helps...IM me if yo have more q's.

Have your alt checked for amperage. I had battery probs for 2 mos. and 2 batteries before my alternator finally gave up the ghost. Sometimes they go bad one brush at a time, so that it charges, but not as much as its supposed to.
