i was warming up the hatch the other day and idling when i saw the speedometer jump to around 40mph then back down again

is this a sign of my cluster failing or is it my vss?

also when i ripped it a while back, i was around 60mph when the needle backed down to 40mph and jumped back to the correct speed. i didnt bog or anything.

 

sounds like a VSS to me. I wouldnt worry about it until it does it more often. or you can just be safe and change both.

should i just wait for the vss cel to kick in to worry about it?

 

i just went through a lot of **** trying to figure out why mine was jumping.

I have been pulling the plug a lot lately, by doing so i damaged the pins inside of the plug to the VSS

I tried a new cluster and VSS b4 i figured it out./

Also could be a ground... This caused it in my friends 98 civic.

 

thats what happened to mine when my vss went crazy. mine slowly got worse then i changed it.

 

Had the same problem with my 94 EX I replaced the circuit board on the rear of the gauge and it cleared up
