Default stereo NEWBIE......help!

Ok, back in the day i used to have a pickup truck, and i did some stuff, Eclipse Subs, Pioneer Premier amp, JL Audio Components in the doors.

well fast forward about 3 years, here i am, turbo'd civic and a forced induction NUT. i can go on all day about engines, but when it comes to audio....i dont know DICK. i have these JL Audio 4" component speakers with the little 1/2" tweeter thingy, that used to be in my truck. i want to know if these are worth putting into my 2000 civic? i have the high range tweeter pods already in my mirror from the factory speakers, but will the 4" guys fit in my car? like i said i dont know much, but if anyone can help me out, id appreciate it.

they should work in the doors, but you may need to make a special plate or kickpannel for it.

Ya, anything will fit with a little modification... And since you are putting in a 2" smaller speaker, it shouldn't be too hard to make it fit. Although I would suggest ebaying those and puttin the money towards some 6" components, but thats just me.

For the newer civics (94+), I believe they are 6.5" front and rear. The sedans might be 6x9's in the back, but I could be wrong. I'm pretty sure the coupes are 6.5" all aroudn though. If you need sugestions on 6" components to buy if you plan on selling those JL's, just let me know your price range and I can give some suggestions.

definatly bro,

im very interested in redoing all my interiors this summer. im not a huge fan of bass, and i dont want subs, but i do want VERY nice sound inside my car, i want crystal clear, sound, with decent bass without the addition of an amp or subs

i can alot around 500 for interior speakers, can you give me some suggestions? like i said, im pretty much clueless, who makes good products, who doest? would it be good to replace my rear 6.5"s with 6x9s? is this even possible? help!

how would YOU spend $500 on a 2000 Civic Coupe?

Hmm, no amps eh? If you don't plan on amping, I would suggest getting co-ax's instead. Lot cheaper and will still sound good. Crystal makes some good co-ax's as does Diamond Audio (the m3 line), Memphis, and MB Quart. I would invest in 4 6.5" co-ax's (get ones with crossovers) of the same brand of your liking and then buy a new head unit. Pioneer, Kenwood eXelon, JVC, or Alpine are my suggestions for those.

Personally, with $500 bucks, I would do something like this:

Pioneer 7400MP Head Unit (roughly $250-$270)
MB Quart PKC116 ($210 a pair on http://www.cbrstereo.com) OR Diamond Audio m36i's.

Ya, its over $500 bucks, I know... But those speakers by themselves keep you under $500. Maybe go with a set of Infinity Perfect Co-ax's instead. They are a very crisp, clean sounding set of speakers. Also Pioneer TSA-1667 (or some number like that) sound very good as well. The Pio's are very cheap, you can get them for less than $200 for all 4 and are worth EVERY penny. Don't know aobut hte infinity's price off the top of my head. Both of those speakers, however, aren't quite as crisp and clean as the Diamond Audio or MB Quarts mentioned above, but they are hella cheaper. Hope this helps.

i dont think $500 is a reasonable amount for a good deck and 4.
IMO best deck for the buck = alpine cda-7893, eclipse CD3422

best highs w/o amp = eclipse point source under $200 per pair, focal 165h coax, and those alpine type r coax are pretty good too

and but a DYNAMAT extreme wedge pack, it really does work. if weight isnt a concern, buy lots of dynamat

Don't get dynamat, get brown bread... Cheaper, thinner, and just as effective. Also, the speakers boyracer listed are good as well as the ones I listed.

$500 for jsut speakers I would spring for Diamond Audio Hex or M6 in the front and M36i in the back. Thats if you really want to go with components in the front. If you can live with co-ax's and save some money, go with the MB Quarts I mentioned my above post. Diamond and MB have won the most sql comps (sound quality level competitions) in the last 4 or 5 years so I would go with them. Not ******* on focal/eclipse b/c those are also good choices, but my opinion is to go with Diamond or MB.

For deck, I personally like pioneer's over the rest. Eclipse have a little better sound quality but are fugly if you ask me. Alpine are also good sound quality decks. If you take all 3 and just use the flat setting, the alpine will sound best, but after tweeking all the settings on the decks, the Pioneer I have found sounds the best.

I just installed my alpine 6.5" type R components, but they sound sooooooooo nice(im new to car audio). Now all I need to do is get some of that brown bead stuff since the plastic door covering under my right door panel vibrates and makes noices.

Any of you guys know how much I should need to do the doors?

4 or 6 sq ft is what I would get (either 2x2 or 2x3).

ok, decided to Ebay my JL components.

they are 4" with 1" tweets. they include the 2-way cross over already set up for subs etc. (High Pass: 24dB/octave @ 4500 Hz, Low Pass: 12dB/octave @ 4500 Hz)

they are pretty much brand new and were purchased new in '99, yea its a bit dated but they were used for only a few months. what wold be a FAIR price to ask for these?

How much did you pay for them? Off the bat, $100 bucks sounds like a good no reserve starting price. But if you only paid $200, then maybe $100 is too high to start at.
