If you want it to 'kick' you need a taller cam profile;

its a sohc 2.3 L with v2 intake headers stage 3 clutch and flywheel racing downpipe test pipe with dual exhaust and aem cam gear this is the second engine ive had in the car it has approx 40k miles on it.
check the oil level, most of the time people don't even check that..forever.
check the solenoid mesh filter, that's like the first thing you check when vtak is not working or working right

And it shouldn't "kick" at all... it should be a relatively smooth transition.
Btw you've got a header, not headers. Dual exhaust on an I4? lol
