Terrible Fuel Consumption after seal repair?
Hi,
I have a 94 honda accord EX. I'm going to try to make this as short as possible. Basically, I had the following repairs done a couple weeks ago:
1) Replace leaking gas tank
2) Replace valve cover gasket + oil pan gasket
Now I'm getting TERRIBLE gas mileage. Approx. 300kms to 50 L of gas.
I can't find any leakages from the gas tank, even though the guy didn't replace the gas lines (to try to save me money).
ALSO, the idle is really weird now. It's idling usually at about 1100 rpms...when it used to idle at 750. And sometimes when I put it into neutral or park, it starts revving up and down between 1000 rpms and 2000 rpms.
What's going on? I'm pretty sure the guy didn't replace my spark plugs after doing the valve seal, and definitely didn't replace my fuel filter - but I kinda don't think those two things would be causing this problem.
Thanks in advance!
Ian

I would return to the people that did the work and explain to them the car DID NOT have this problem until they worked on it.
Give them a chance to make it right, but don't let them pick your pockets.
you'll find out real fast if it is a good shop or a ripoff shop.

It might be the high idling that is causing the excessive gas use. I know I moved one of the throttle cables while doing work on the car and left it there so there was a little tension. What happened is my idle was horrible and to high like yours. My gas mileage was atrocious. I'm not saying that's the case but just reenforcing that if you fix the idle issue, you probably will fix your gas issue.
