Default All help welcome

I think I have finally decided after all of these years to do an engine swap. I have a 96 GSR and would love to have the K20 in it but am concerened with extra parts and labor that it would just be too much money. Would you recommend an ITR B-series instead and what would the price difference of installation be between the two? And what other things will I need to do to complete the swap(i.e. new clutch, water pump, etc.)? And also, do you think it would be more reasonable just to rebuild the GSR motor and save me money? I should say that I'm thinking about doing my suspension again and paint as well(and I'm doing this on a cops budget).
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

with a k20 swap you are looking at a whole bunch of extra parts you must purchase

besides the engine and tranny you must purchase:

motor mounts
aftermarket axles
shifter box
wire harness
K-pro
a header that fits your chasis
ep3, dc5 of aftermarket radiator
and tuning

for a b-series swap all you have to go is bolt the motor in the place of the old one and get it tuned, or run a stock map in a chipped ecu for the motor

so in a rough estimate the k20 will cost around twice as much as an ITR swap

Yep, pretty much 8-10k almost to get it all done.

And if you have a gsr now, I wouldn't do a type-r swap,
you rebuild, and still have enough left over for other things.

id say stick with your stock engine. its got a lot of potential already. what are your goals with the new engine or rebuild? are you looking for serious power, or just a decent bit more power with OEM reliability?

I guess that my main goals are not huge amounts of power. I drive 76 miles a day so the reliability of all motor appeals to me more than anything. But I would like to have a bit more power, just not a great amount. What would anyone recommend in the way of all motor performance? Nothing radical, just subtle changes. And it must continue to get excellent gas mileage. And if your only suggestion is a header and exhaust, dont even bother.

It depends on your budget. All motor is a very expensive approach to making more horsepower.

Why not throw in some mild cams, I'm sure you could get 10-15 from a tune out of a good pair.
