Default cleaning up an engine block???

does anybody have any suggestions on stuff to use to clean my engine up with? i can't use engine degreaser because it all says to run engine until warm. my engine isn't in the car, i wanted to clean it before it goes back in. I have tried simple green and some other stuff, not working too well?

Use lacquer thinner. It works really well. Or Acetone.

The best thing to use is aircraft paint remover. You can get it at alot of auto parts store, it's slightly expensive but does an amazing job.

I recently picked up a GSR block and it wasnt that dirty but i wanted to give it that "im a brand new block" look, so i used some penzoil degreaser and that stuff WORKS...a lot better than Gunk Brand degreaser..just my .02

if you have a disk sander, take that and get some of the scotch brite pads for it and use those, they work awesome. then after doing that, paint the block bl ack and you won't have to worry about cleaning it again, and it looks awesome too. i did the same thing and i love it. but its up to you what color you paint it.

Use Castrol Super Clean...just spray it, let sit for a few minutes then hose it down. You may have to use a metal brush to scrun in between crannies. (Repeat as needed) Works better than simple green. I used this on 2 of my motors and it really works well. A gallon usually goes for less than $10 at your local Kragens or Auto parts store.

I used diesel fuel and a dremel tool.. it worked ok. probably not the best option though. It took a while, stunk, and the results weren't spotless..
