Default p0420 after header

so i installed my kamakazi header on my 03 dx, and now i have code p0420. i understand that there are 2 ways to simulate a correct secondary o2 reading, which is just that the computer is looking for a constant voltage without oscillation. theres the mechanical way with a spark plug defouler and an electrical way with an 02 simulator.

my question is if you can use just a resistor or series of resistors to accomplish the same task without building/buying an actual simulator. if this is so then what ohm and wattage resistor should i use. TIA for any and all help

(yes i have searched)

TOO technical for me... you would need to contact Honda themselves, or consult a manual and get the OEM resistance ratings and go from there....

But wouldn't it be easier to just get some defoulers and make an o2 sim?

setting a completely constant voltage with a series of resistors will still set off the CEL for a faulty o2 in just a few drives. the computer is looking for more than just a constant voltage output. just buy some spark plug defoulers and get it over with. it's such a cheap alternative, but people always try to work around it for some reason.

haha i work for honda. but i cant seem to get it right. i spent about an hour after work experimenting with different resistances, and old wiring harness, a factory scanner and my vantage graphing meter. i was only able to reduce the sine wave a little bit, but then agian i got impatient after putting 20ohms into the circuit. so maybe i need to go with more resistance.

owell i was just wondering if anyone has done this before. just trying to save myself the hassle of the research & development time. lol back to the tinkering 2morrow

thats the thing. im not trying to set a constant voltage. im just trying to reduce the amplitude and frequency of the sine wave. ya if it doesnt move a little bit the ecu will think its a non responsive 02

all that time you spent with a scan tool, a scope and a pile of resistors, you couldve spent $4 on some non-foulers, drilled one out and called it good.

kamakaze header gets rid of cat right? so it threw a p0420 which is a cat. deficiency code. get a pair of spark plug non foulers, drill the first one going into the header 1/2in. and then screw the second one to that then your 02 sensor into that.

ok so i did the defouler method but has anyone run into problems with the ac bracket being in the way? i had to notch out the ac bracket so the damn thing would fit.

most of us with dx's normally only run into this problem with doing ex exhaust conversions, so i'll have to say no. normally there is plenty of room down below the car for the sensor and the spacer.
