Was wondering if I was to put in both ctr cams intake and exhaust will it work with my stock gsr valvetrain??? Meaning is it too agressive?? Or my gsr valvetrain can handle it?? Do I have to upgrade my valvetrain?? I'm not looking into upgrading my valvetrain so will these ctr cams work fine with my gsr valvetrain? Btw, I have a 01 gsr if that helps. Thanks for the help.
it can handle it as long as u use your stock ecu. u'll probably notice like a weird dip in power around 4300. that's what happened in my car anyways. i got a jdm itr ecu and the power was truely unleashed. hope that helps. using skunk2 cam gears, too.
i put ITR cams in my gsr and untuned their was a big drop before vtec...but i gained 5WHP once the cams were tuned it didnt drop and i had gained 8whp from the cams.....
now i have an 8700rpm redline with stock valve train,,,,,i shift at 8000 all day no problems as of yet...(10 000 km's)

is the itr ecu plug and play? Don't you need like a Skunk2 Im to eliminate the dual runner to work with the itr ecu?
NXTEG: How can your redline go up to 8700 with stock valvetrain? How often you redline is it fine? Thanks.

The JDM ITR ecu is actually a crappy ecu, powerwise/baseline run on the dyno, in comparison to the US version. The US P73 ecu is better to run. It's been dyno proven too. I'll post the dyno charts soon..
Based on a signal from the ECU, the IAB control solenoid regulates when the butterflies in the larger intake runners are open. When your car is off, the butterflies are open. When you start your car, the IAB solenoid immediately allows vacuum through, to close the butterflies. If the IAB control solenoid doesn't get a signal from the ECU, it won't let vacuum through to close the butterflies, so they'll always be open. Therefor, with anything but a GSR ECU, the larger runners will always be open.
You can raise your redline in a number of ways, but it's only safe to do so if you upgrade your valvetrain. Reving past stock redline with a stock valvetrain is asking for trouble... ESPECIALLY when you've got bigger cams in there.

I thought that ITR valve springs were weaker cause the valves were lighter? Would this be a problem on steck ecu. Cant he just add inner springs?
I mean that the spring rate was not as strong on the outer because there was a inner on the exhaust side. Still how much do you plan to rev. I had CTR +ITR cams in my hatch and didnt notice valve float till 92-9300 rpm. B16head+GSR block p73 pistons if that made a difference over just regular GSR.
the USDM p73 ECU probably only works if u get a '97 ECU? i have tried running a '98 p73 ECU with my type-r cams, only to get error codes and a check engine light, coupled with bad idling and car dying @ idle in heavy traffic.
how did you get your p73 obdii ecu to work?
