Default When to sleeve a block?

Just wondering when sleeves are a must? I heard it was around 450 on a b18b block. I am going to be doing LS/VTEC and am just wondering if I'm going to need to sleeve the block aswell, cause if not, I'm just going to get pistons, rods and such. I want to run anywhere between 350-425, and I don't want to buy sleeves if I don't need them since they are a little pricey. (As if doing this isn't pricey enough. but I can have the enitre ls vtec build done for under 2k if I don't use sleeves.)

Put it this way...if you are trying to make 250+ WHP, I would sleeve. There is no doubt that they will be stronger, but, they aren't necessary. It's up to your build and your pocketbook really.

Well, I have read that the stock block is good to about 300, and if you go build it, it'll be good to 450, and if you fully sleeve it, it will be good to about 600. Am I corect?

And if you get someone that doesnt know how to tune, then HP doesnt even matter.

if you want to run 400+whp and not worry about it go ahead and sleeve. another advantage is you can do an overbore at the same time.

but....

On my last set-up up made 320hp on stock sleeves. I had cp pistons and eagle rods too. I would think as long as u have a good tuner u would have no problem hittin 350hp. I now have 600hp and sleeves were a must duh I have heard of ppl making like 450 on stock sleeves, but my question is for how long?

Yeah, my real question I guess is how far do I want to go with this? I guess once I figure that out, I'll know where to go from there.

I cracked a sleeve making 290 whp on a stock block. I did run for 3 years on boost though!

It all depends on your tune. I recommend before you get tuned read up and learn a little about what the tuner will be doing. Don't always trust him and look over his shoulder. That is unless you know that he has tuned many cars that run well for many years.
