Speed Sensor....?
Got failed at emissions and was told the speed sensor is not working. Speedometer is not working now, but other dash gauges seem fine. Odometer is not working either. I have googled to get more info on this and how to replace this part, but it has been rather difficult. Any help on this? It may seem that the 2001 Honda Accord has no speed sensor, could that be true or is it inclusive with the cluster?
Thanks for the post, but I am not finding a vss for a 2001 honda accord available?? Could this be because it doesn't exist? If not, what could have caused this problem?

that is just freaking amazing ! ! ! P0500 is a VSS code, and a speedo won't work with a bad VSS. Oh man all the cosmic tumblers have clicked into place.
The VSS is located on top of the differential housing above the inner CV joints. 3 wire connector is attached to it.
I'd upload a pic for ya but this forum does not support anything like that.

I had this same problem on my Accord (2000 LX Coup, MT), replaced the VSS (very simple, one bolt and one plug, 10 min.) Drove it and it worked fine. Reset the check engine light according to directions by pulling clock backup fuse for 10 min. I drove 4 miles and the speedometer quit again, check engine light is back on and it is once again giving the ecu code P0500 (17)VSS. Any ideas what might cause this?
Thanks in advance for your help,

Ok I read this thread and am curious, I have an 08 Integra w/1.8, standard shift. I get the P0500 speed sensor code but everything is working fine, Speedo, odometer etc. I've cleared it and it comes back after a mile or so. Any idea's?
If something didn't work I'd understand it but no problems...

Yes, cruise control works as well, frankly I'm baffled at this code as the Speedo, Odometer and cruise control all work. Any ideas would be great.
