Default When to rebuild/replace engine?

I have a 97 Accord 2.2l Automatic sitting on 365,000 kms. Its very high and we use it regularly. Today i drove it over 120 km/h and there was a quite loud roaring coming from it. I was wondering if the engine is getting too old.

When do we usually rebuild the thing? or replace it? I believe I have a F22B1 engine in that car. Whenever the car is due for a service, the oil level gets pretty low and it looks kinda frightening.

I'm guessing you're from Canada ? Since you're in kms

I know around me a f22 is like 300-500 bucks, a good overhaul on it I'm guessing would be similar in price

that's about 228K miles...still plenty of life left in that engine if you have been taking care of it...are you sure the roar wasn't from the trans or front tires?

I would do some basic troubleshooting before I rebuilt a motor as it may not even need it

Honda motors can last for 450-500K miles or about 720-800KMs with proper care. My wife's acura has 330K miles on it and it still runs like the day it was bought.

some signs that you need an engine overhaul include

mysterious loss of coolant (no visible leaks)
burning oil
no compression
oil in coolant or vice versa
knocking noises
low oil pressure for extended milage
excessive wear on valve train.....

Great to hear that. There wasnt loss of coolant i suppose but loss of engine oil without any visible leaks? Is that normal? there isn't any knocking noises, at least non that were excessively loud.

see #2 on the list... if you are loosing oil and there are no visible leaks then you are burning it........

I've been searching around with the same question in mind... my engine runs very well but eats oil, also it only pulls 16" after a major tune up (all new vacuum lines etc & was only pulling about 12 when I got it) what does a healthy 2.2 normally pull on vacuum from the brake booster port?

details: 1996 accord 2.2 non-vtec manual w/ 177k miles
