I had a compression check done this morning 150 dead on all 4 cylinders, then when i put back in the plugs and connected the leads the car wouldnt start. it will turn but wont fire up. I pulled the return fuel line off and turned on the ignition and petrol spilled out so its getting fuel. I swapped my leads for my friends ones and still nothing. Then we discovered that there is no spark going to the end of the lead. The rotor is turning inside the distrib. but after cranking the engine i pulled one of the plugs and it was dry..so the ecu isnt getting a signal from the ignitor (i think)While doing the comp. check on cyl.3 the car back fired or made some strange noise after i stopped cranking the engine, but my friend reckoned it just backfired through the intake pipe and that it shouldnt have done any harm. ...could the distributor give up that easy and why now...does compression check put extra load on the ignitors seeing as they are firing for longer to build up the compression...or could it possibly be the coil, how do i check it? i'm severly pee'd off now seeing as i was expecting the compression test to be disappointing but as it was fine we just cant figure out what the hell happened..we didnt touch any other leads/sensors/plugs before hand...someone please try and shed some light on this problem.

Did you disable your ignition system or ground the coil output before doing the compression test? If not, you may have killed your coil.

If i disabled the ignition how would i crank the engine...i didnt ground the coil...the guy doing the test is a mechanic...shouldn't he have known that?? Is a new coil expensive?? i thought as the spark plugs were dry then the injectors werent squirting as they werent getting the signal from the ignitor in the distrib.
Yep, your coil probably took a dump. Disabling the ignition will not prevent the engine from turning. You could have pulled the ECU fuse to be safe. What probably happened was the coil was charging up and firing but it had nowhere to dump the spark. The voltage jumped across the coil windings and burned or shorted them. You could verify the coil is bad by checking the resistance. The primary side should be about 0.6 ohms, the secondary around 14k ohms, I think. Verify the accuracy of my guess before judging your coil by it.

thanks guys..i should be able to get a second hand distributor from a breakers yard
..hopefully!! The guy that done the test for me works in the parts dept at honda in our home town, he said he'd get me a distributor fairly cheap but i think that seeing as my car is jdm the ones available over here for euro hondas wont work and i know that the ITR one has only one plug on it...im now driving a POS ford fiesta...but hey this thing runs on fresh air...1.1L power..you cant beat it!!!
