New Honda Lawsuit (maybe a repost, I swear I read it somewhere)
Got it in the mail today, thought I'd share.
Litigation (In short): If you purchased a Honda/Acura year 2002-2006, or a n '07 Fit, between the dates of April 13, 02 and November 7, 06, there's an allegation of Honda odometers reading incorrectly by 2.0% to 4.0%. Suit was filed April 13, 04 against American Honda Motor, Honda Motor Co., and Nippon Seiki Co., alleging that the companies had violated the Federal Odometer Act. A suit was filed by another party again on June 23, 2006 alleging that Honda had breached the implied warranty of merchantability and violated the Federal Odometer Act.
Defense disposition: Defendants deny all allegations of wrongdoing.
Notice: Inform all settlement class members.
Benefit:
a) Warranty extension: Extension of the mileage limitations of warranty by 5%.
b) Reimbursement of repairs: If repairs were paid for by vehicle owner after the original warranty, but would have been covered due to the 5% extension. Example: For a normal 36k mile warranty, repairs must have been made between 36,001 and 37,800 miles.
c) Lease Extension: Increased mileage limit by 5%.
d) Reimbursement for Excess Mileage Charges: If it falls within the 5% increase.
If court approves settlement ($9.8 million of lawyer fees, $10k to original plaintiff, $1k to the secondary), they will dismiss the litigation, and Honda will provide the benefits to the settlement class members aside from those who have excluded themselves.

Hrm... interesting about the suit, but I can attest that my speedometer does read fast by 4%. I've tested it with a side-of-the-road radar, and with my GPS. I've considered getting a yellow box to fix it, but I figure it might help keep my speed slightly in check with the cops. If I have a warranty claim at the warranty expiration + 4% I will argue with Honda that they are obliged to fix it. I'll worry about it then though, because I doubt I'd run into that problem.
I've heard they can be reasonable if you're slightly over warranty as is, so I don't worry.

My friend's EK reads about 5% too fast, but he has aftermarket wheels so...
My S reads 1mph off at 45, clocked at different radars. I have +1 tire sizing (225/255).
About the mileage, they're pretty lenient as long as they have been the one providing the service.

gotta love class action lawsuits. $10mln to the lawyers, 1,800 miles added to the warranty for everyone else... sounds fair to me!

Supposedly the odometer reads wrong because Honda is conservative on the speedometer.
Reading speeds faster than you're actually going = totalling more miles than you actually traveled.

The main vehicles in question are all Hondas except the Odyssey sold within the time frame.

And people wonder why new Civics are $20k+. If they incur more overhead costs like this, I won't be surprised if they reach $30k.
Oh, and those lawyers can rot in hell.
