Default GSR seems to lose power and idle bad in traffic

I have a 98 GSR and it seems like every time I go through some stop n go traffic, my idle goes down to like ~350 and my car feels like it has no power. When I drive on the freeway and then come to a stop sign, my idle is fine, at like 800, and feels fine, but not as good as when the car is cold. When my car is cold, or still in the middle of warming up, it seems to pull harder even at low rpms than when it's fully warmed up... so i'm pretty convinced that it's some sort of heat issue... does anyone have any ideas as to what it could be? this is really bothering me for the most part, my temperatures are fine, at least according to my thermometer.

Also, I thought I was running rich but I just checked my spark plugs yesterday and they were brown, so maybe not... but that doesn't explain why I got high HC's on my smog check and why there's black build up on my bumper...

Help me out here

Nope, you get any CELs?

might be your FITV needing adjustment?

I don't get a CEL on the cluster, is there anywhere else I should check?

I don't think it's the FITV, because like I said if I'm cruising on the highway and then get to a stop sign or two, it idles just fine, at 800 like a champ.. but if I stop and go through traffic for a while, that's where the trouble starts usually, and it gets worse the longer i'm sitting in traffic.

though I suppose it wouldn't hurt to try cleaning it anyway..

edit: wait, my car's a 98, but it has a 94 block with a 96 head, would it have a FITV?

I've heard obd2 engines don't have FITV's, not sure if this is trued or not though, just check on the bottom of ur throttle body for some coolant lines, should be 2 and then a metal structure that's the FITV. Also, how's ur temp reading? Is it hot when u sit in traffic for a while?

most of the time temp is fine, though it did overheat once through really bad traffic...

but then I checked and my coolant was low, so maybe that's why

does anyone else have any ideas other than FITV?

I just installed some new spark plugs + wires, but it doesn't seem to make a difference (haven't had a chance to go through bad traffic yet, but right now it's idling at 500 just going stopsign to stopsign...)

u should do a full tune-up. replacing the air filter , fuel filter , oil change , wires , plugs, cap n rotor etc. then go from there.
