98 acccord trans blew f23a1
Hi,
Recently at 117.5k my trans blew on my accord, when you shift to drive (auto), and rev the engine, it seems as if the car is in neutral and will even roll back on a hill, then when it gets to about 4k-5k rpm it will grip and the tires will screech and the car will jolt. I towed the car to the local dealership, they said a new trans, and to fix some other minor problem with the engine will be $2900, I wanted to get other people's opinion on this, the car has a lot of add-ons so i dont just wanna get rid of it and get another car. Isn't it about the same money to swap the engine and trans completely?
any response is welcome thanks!

who know
you said fix something with the engine, what are they?you didn't say.
a new tranny cost around that much, you didn't say they are rebuilt or what.
you asked us is it worth it without saying what "stuff" you have on your car.
it's like guess upon guess

they want to replace the tranny with a new one
they didnt say what is wrong with the engine (without fixing that problem they quoted 2700 so i think its minior, like replacing a belt)
I didnt think typing out the add-ons would make a difference since its mechanical but here it is:
pioneer 7800, with xm and auxilary add-ons for ipod, laptop etc
Viper 771 vx alarm w/ remote start
Rota wheels
tinted all around
eurotails
whole dash converted to blue leds
it doesnt have a body kit or anything but thats still about 2k-3k of addons
BTW the engine i would swap it for if anything is http://www.nagasakijdmmotors.c...O.htm

If you still drive the car, wait until it actually goes into gear before getting on the gas. This will avoid the neutral slams that it's doing. You might want to consider doing an auto to manual swap. It will come out cheaper if you do the work yourself.
I had the same thing on my car, it's the faulty *** Honda auto tranny. I have a feeling you're outside the warranty period though. I haven't had problems since with my new tranny. Mine did the same thing, it would lose all power up past 2500, would go to 4k without shifting, and then all of a sudden drop a gear and shoot me forward.
i dont have the tools to do a swap my self since this entails, taking out the engine, (plus its way to cold to work outside right now) As far as cost would a auto to manual swap cost more than just replacing the tranny for a new auto?
