Default HELP WITH MY ZC??????????????

i just bought a zc from a friend of mine the problem is i just pulled my zc out of my EF to put this one in and have had nothing but problems with it.
both motors have ZC stamped on the block
1. i read that if the zc serial number started with a 2 or 5 it was from would tell if it came from a crx/civc/teg mine starts with a 3..
2. i had to switch the mounts that came on it back to my ef mounts and the weird thing was that i had to cut the timing cover because his timing cover and mine were completely different yet they are both ZC's
3. i tried getting a new waterpump for it and had no luck i ordered one for a 91 honda civic zc and it fit the one i just pulled but not the one i just bought.. weird...
4. it has a d16z6 head on it to run vtec for some crazy *** reason.. and my buddy alread put new gaskets on it and has it on the block and i already bought a new timing belt for it and thats on there to..
the engine is already in the car and ready to go.
5. i just bought a d16z6 dizzy in hopes that it would work or that i could gut it and put it in my zc diz but the coil in the vtec diz is too big... and it wont work because my plugs are round and those are squared... what are my opions on how to make this work..
ANY HELP WOULD BE REALLY APPRIECATED.. THANKS

i have already searched and came up with nothing. i was on the "thezcr.com" site for the past the 3 days and many other sites literally all day trying to find some answers and the only ones a got were that the water pump for a 89crx should have worked, and that if the serial number is 2 or 5 its civic or teg.... but why doest mine start with 3.???

There was a 1.6 SOHC ZC that had VTEC in the later years. You can't use the internals of an OBD-1 Distributor in a OBD-0 distributor. Some parts just don't fit.

You can find out what production year it is by looking between the #2 and #3 exhaust ports. Anything later than 92 is OBD1, prior is OBD0. Btw, you might want to ask around on thezcr.com too, some of those guys know ZCs in and out.

yeah i knew that much i just didn't know why the water pumps dont work especially when i got one for a SOHC zc unless the block is somehow a DOHC with SOHC head on it...
thats why i asked what the deal was with why my serial number started with a "3" and not a 2 or 5 like it's supposed to..
i have began to ask around on thezcr

sounds like you have a SOHC VTEC ZC which is OBD1 (basically same as D16Z6) - the one you had was SOHC non-VTEC OBD0 (basically same as D16A6) - block serial numbers starting with '2' or '5' are DOHC ZC engines - the DOHC and SOHC blocks are not the same

Grey dizzy plugs = OBD1
White/Clear plugs = OBD0

You should take out the harness and send it to the Rywire.com guys and they can turn it into an OBD1 harness for you. They also sell jumpers so you can convert yours, but some minimal work on your end will be necessary too I believe. Shoot a PM @ Ryan, he should be able to answer you question correctly and rather fast. - SA

i've been the poud owner of the same [DOHC] ZC for 7 years, and i've never had a problem with finding parts for it.

maybe i'm just an old-schooler, but the only ZC i think should be labeled so, is JDMs closest cousin to the d16a1, the DOHC version.

i just put my old zc head on this block. so i dont' have to worry about all the vtec
but i still haven't found out where this block came from and why both timing covers were different and why the mounts were different.??? shouldn't they have been the same?

aight. so i found out why the mounts where different.. they were for a 97 because that's what he took it out of.
the timing cover maybe came off of what he originally had in his 97
the tensioner he probably put on too so he could run the d16z6 head.
but why were both the water pumps different when they were both from zc's?
