Default Shift fork question

I just recently bought this tranny(89 crx dx 5spd) for my auto-manual swap, but on installing my throwout bearing i noticed a slight metal sound coming from inside everytime i shifted the transmission from left to right.
So i found this:

The peice of shift fork belongs with the other half on the very bottom fork.

-----

Now for the question:

Which one of these is the correct part number for this particular shift fork.
https://www.hondapartsdeals.co...M++07

And what the expletive is this, is it suppsoed to be sitting around by itself? it doesnt attach itself to any gear.

the one all by itself is the reverse idler gear and yes it should be all by itself like that. The shift linkage will only push in and out into three positions because the other gears are selected when you turn the shift selector rod by rotating it slightly with the shifter. So essentially all you are doing when pushing it in and out is getting 3rd neutral and 4th which are in the middle, ie no turns of the shift ****.

From looking at the factory manual, that appears to be the 1-2 fork that is broken...and I bet that is the most commonly problematic one.

While you're in there, why not drop in an Si final drive.

part number you need is: 24220-PL3-010

FYI - when you pull the shift fork off the shaft, be careful to not lose the detent ***** and springs - when you pull it off the spring will just shoot out of the hole

the Si final drive consists of the ring gear and the countershaft - the ring gear is the big gear on the differential (bottom right of your second picture) and the countershaft is the one with the big nut on the end - about the only way you are going to find them (other than buying them new - list about $450) is to buy a used Si transmission

So wouldnt it just be better to buy a si tranny. Seems like too much work to swap out final drives.

Maybe start here: http://gearspeedinc.com/products.htm
Then of course there's ebay, etc. and ZC final drives might be avaiable as well.

it would, if you could find a good one for a good price - sometimes you can pick-up one that isn't in good condition, as far as synchros, bearings, etc., and not have to pay a lot for it - most of the time, the ring gear and countershaft are fine
