Default For the guys with WRX's also....

A buddy of mine is looking to install an aftermarket exhaust system on his '02 sedan and was wanting some opinions on which to get. I was going to tell him to pick up the A'PEXi N1 but I noticed that they haven't released it yet. Also, would it help his gains by removing 2 of the 3 cats? What is another mod that will gain good numbers? Thanks.

Blitz NUR exhaust is really good.. mellow sound.... About the cats, you would want to get rid of the precat before the turbo...

http://www.i-club.com is a good subaru site

the blitz nur spec is fugen loud! I got the turbo muffler, which has a 3" inlet and 3" piping to go with it. With the stock cat and silencer its still setting off alarms when I don't try to. I will be putting a turbo on sometime soon so hopefully that will quite it down a bit, if not I'm have to find a chambered muffler and maybe another glasspacked too.

If you want the quietest exhaust get MRT turbo back. I wouldn't really even bother with a catback system personally. BUT then again I am all for go and NO SHOW!! Which the MRT fits perfectly.

BPM isn't bad... they are about the mid-upper range of sound loudness. Looks pretty good, probably one of the better looking exhausts

ScoobySport is pretty loud but sounds good. I believe they use a 2.5" turbo back system. Not bad looking... somewhere between MRT and BPM.

These are about the only exhaust systems I have seen and heard personally. If you want no frills looks BUT quiet and good performance go with MRT. I think you will probably get P0420 - system cat. below efficiency levels with just about ANY aftermarket turbo back system (EVEN those that replace two 2cats, post-turbo, with a high flow cat). The only thing I would do differently is go COMPLETEY catless vs. having one high flow cat. But if that bothers you than most manufacturers have that as an option.

"up-pipe" you should know but don't worry about it if you don't, precat should be the first to go...

Son of Yoda, are you?

I agree, replacing the pre-cat on the uppipe shows great gains, improvements in turbo spool, power, driveability, etc.

As far as the rest, pick up a straight-through muffler you like the sound of, get a carsound high-flow cat, & go custom for the rest. Save yourself a couple hundred dollars. As long as its mandrel bent & straight-through 3" the whole way through , it will perform as well (if not better) than anything out there.
