ok so all of the sudden my car desides to just idle really high. around 3000 rpm. it used to do it around2 and then fall eventually as a drove it because of cold weather. but now its just dumb. i push the clutch in to use the brakes and it sounds like im trying to race somone. lol. help me out. i checked for vaccume leaks visually and couldent find any. please let me know if there is any other way i could check like with saop water or somthing. thanks

Do a search for FITV or fast idle thermal valve fix.

Spray carb cleaner around your IM, your RPMs will drop a little if you spray it in an area with a vaccuum leak. If that doesn't lead to anything, clean/adjust your FITV like DaX said and maybe clean your IACV while you're at it. It could be air in your cooling system as well.

Did you check to see if maybe the choke is on? That's all I can think of...

choke? Yeah, anyway. Def. check for vacume leaks. There arent a whole lot of vacume lines so Im sure if one was off you could find it. The fitv was my problem, but I dont think it would keep the idle up that high even when it was warm. Usually its only when your engine is cold. The iacv might help, but the iacv being dirty is usually associated with a surging idle.

So, my thoughts are maybe check your throttle cable to see if its too tight. My throttle cable was adjusted fine but then all the sudden it somehow got tighter, not sure how. But you need to check that. You can take your intake tube off and see if your throttle plate is cracked open. And if it is then push on it to close and watch your throttle cable while you do that. If the cable moves then its too tight, so you would need to loosen it.

Also you should spray the carb clean near where the intake manifold mates with the head. Maybe one of the screws fell out and its sucking in air, or maybe the gasket failed for one reason or another.

To tell you the truth there is a whole laundry list of things it could be. If you search for idle problem, or idle issue, or high idle you will come up with a huge amount of hits. Its a bitch reading through all of them and I asure you that you will go through every single one of the suggestions to fix your idle and then you will find out its something really stupid or you will go through everyones suggestions until you get to the last one and that will be it. Honda idle problems are the worst. So many things effect it in so many ways. So you need to be patient with it and one day you will find it and you will love your car ten times more.

ive had the fitv valve fall out a bunch of times on diffrent cars . sounds like a vacumme leak wich this would be an easy way to check to see if this is it ..

take off the intake hose where it hooks to the throttle body. start the car. let it idle. make sure the plate is all the way closed. look inside the throttle body you can see a hole in there. plug it off with your finger. if the idle dropps back down . do a search like someone posted above for a step by step on fixing it.

If the idle is jumping up and down it might be that you have two connectors crossed. There are sensors with the same type of connector on the back of the block and the manifold, i've done that one numerous times on swaps. There are only two that are the same.

oh sorry yes i checked the throttle cable and its good. not to tight. or tight at all really when not pulled. but i heard i coudl use this smoke stuff and connect it to one of my vaccume hoses and let it fill the intake mani untill there is inought pressure to see where the leak is cuz smoke will be comming out of it. sounds like it should work. im gonna do the plug the idle hole tomorrow and see how that goes
