idle surge worse after cleaning iacv, throttle body
ok well my car was throwing an occasional CEL for the IACV. i so took off the iacv and used almost a whole can of brake cleaner on it and put it back on.
also i took off the intake and used throttle body cleaner and scrubbed the throttle body and butterfly with an old toothbrush.
i started the car and burped the radiator, idled fine while warming up and for a few minutes after, but then it started jumping between 1000 and 2000 rpm. now it does that continously when at idle.
im guessing vacuum leak b/w throttle body and intake mani. anything else it could be?

when mine did that, it was a vacuum leak, just use some wd-40 and spray around gaskets, vacuum lines, iacv; if the engine leaks up when you spray it, there's your leak.
for me, honda gave me the wrong gasket, it was right holes and fitting, but 3/4" too much on the bottom therefore leaked and i had to make one out of gasket material.

thats what i was thinking, but since it didnt surge like this before working on it would carbon have been plugging the leak? then when i scrubbed the throttle body i opened the leak?

also would look into air been in the coolant
also depending were you live and how cold it gets you can always bypass the coolent going into the iacv

i let the car run for about 20 min. with the rad. cap off. i even squeezed the lower hose a few times and got some bubbles out that way.
it does get below freezing here sometimes would that pose a problem if i were to bypass my iacv? would it stop the surging idle

I think its a 12mm bolt, but anyways, pull your intake tube off and see those holes, plug em, and if your idle smoothes out you have FITV backed off issue. make sure your car is at operating temp to test this.
sorry forgot to mention its d16y8, I/H/E stage 2 cam
UPDATE: used throttle body cleaner to try and find any vacuum leaks, none that i could source.
i then tried playing with the idle control screw on the throttle body and closed it all the way, motor didnt die. i then adjusted it out and got it to idle at about 1000 r.p.m steady. any lower and the motor idles like **** because of the crower cam.
EDIT: ^ this seems to have fixed my problem, for anyone that happens upon this thread and is in the same situation.
