Which MSD for nitrous?
Hey all, I have a 96 accord with a 98 h22a, and am currently running a 35hp wet shot. By the end of the summer it will be up to 75hp. What ignition system and what features should I be looking for? I dont care about power gains, I just want to keep my motor
Well my theory usually is, if it ain't broke, don't fix it.
Honda's stock ignition should be good till about 400HP, sometimes more stuff goes wrong when you go aftermarket on the ignition.

make sure you can set the rev limter on the ignition...this way you will NOT hit fuel cut from the ecu and have a really rich condition which would cause detonation...
so ignition IS a good idea in this case...50 hp or 500 hp...ignition system is a good idea when running nitrous...

i thought that detonation was caused by lean conditions. thats why you retard timing to run richer with nitrous, so there is more fuel

With a 75 shot on a H22 in an Accord, you'll need a better fuel pump to deliver the right amount of fuel with a wet shot. As stated a few minutes ago in another post, you can get a Walbro 255l/h fuel pump for $113.40 shipped from http://www.autoperformanceengineering.com.
You can leave your ignition stock, just make sure you run plugs two steps colder. Other than that, have fun!

Oh yeah, I forgot to mention that you really don't need a fuel cutoff since it's ideal to shift before redline when using nitrous since you make more mid-range power than anything. Nitrous tends to have a peaky torque, so the hp dies off pretty quickly at high rpms. Just be smart, and don't over-rev...
yeah im pretty cautious with the 35hp shot now. I have the progressive controller so that it slowly injects the nitrous. I do have the 2 steps colder plugs. Is the fuel pump a direct fit? Do I have to drain out my tank to install it, or just do into my trunk, and replace it? Also, how much do I know how to retard the timing on the msd ignition?

well, its better safe than sorry...like it was just said...fuel cut causes a lean condition...which causes detonation...
or you can get an MSD switch that will cut of the nitrous at a set RPM...those run $60-$90

WTF!!!!!!! Why do I feel like I am dealing with retards? First of all, a single spark ignition cant match a Mutliple Spark ignition like MSD. You get much better burn with a MSD. You need the MSD Digital 6. This ignition allows you to set your rev limiter so you dont hit fuel cut, and it allows you to retard your timing, which you definitely need when spraying nitrous. It is recommended by NOS and Zex to retard your timing 2 degrees per 50 shot of nitrous. Also, the two step rev limiter function is pretty cool, but I dont use mine. You shouldnt need a fuel pump on a wet shot, its not like a turbo or supercharger, you dont boost enough to put a whole lot of strain on your stock pump. If you dont have nitrous, please dont answer nitrous questions.
Wrong, you do need a fuel pump. You could see on my dyno chart how the fuel pump began to starve the power curve. We tried richening it up, and same thing happened. There was simply not enough fuel being provided. With the demands of a H22, plus a wet nitrous shot, you can probably get away with an OEM fuel pump, but your motor won't thank you.
So before you start calling people retards, do some research. If I had a scanner, I'd be happy to show you the proof. Until then, consider yourself owned!
