Prelude 5 speed synchro problems/grinding
I have a 92' SI 2.3 NON + M2S4 5 speed. I have had a problem with 2nd grinding past about 4000RPM. I was redoing my head and replacing my clutch when i decided to break the tranny case to have a look-see. Downloaded my factory manual and started into it. Found the usual, fifth fork and shift sleeve were 3 MM past the service limit tolerance because of the stupid recall BS but 5th wasnt showing any performance problems. So 208.00 replaced the sleeve set (synchro, spring, hub, sleeve, cone) and the shift fork and all seals from a dealer. I also got a kit of parts from http://www.drivetrain.com for all synchros and the second gear intermediate cone. I will be reassembling it all shortly and see how it works. The manual says to always replace synchros and cones as a pair and sleeves and hubs as a pair. But when you take into account that 4 of 6 cones are actual gears.......You end up with $1200 in parts and not much of the original tranny left. But we will see how the half assed synchro only kits work. I have done alot of research on this tranny. Found alot of info and alot of answers. Any useful advice or questions are graciously welcomed. More to come......
