Default Bouncy Temp Gauge??? Anyone ever had this problem??

Okay, the car is an 88 dx hatch with a ls/vtec swap and an Si gauge cluster with tach. The problem is that once the car gets warmed up the tempertature gauge needle goes crazy, when i floor the gas pedal it either jumps to the red zone or drops down a little bit. Then when i push the brakes even when its' idling it'll drop a little but it tends to stay up really hot but i'm not sure if that's my really temp or if the gauge is just going out or something?? Anyone with any ideas???

My car was doing it, but with a d15 in. The problem was a leaky radiator(kinda strange huh), I put some stop leak in it and havent had a problem since. Mine was doing the exact thing too....getting really hot on acceleration and cooling when slowing down (Up and down rapidly, I thought the gauge was tweekin, but it was heating up). If its not the radiator, then check your thermostat and water pump.

Sounds like you've either got bubbles in the coolant, or a bad headgasket (which would also cause bubbles). Be sure to warm the engine up fully, then loosen the bleed valve and let all the air out of the cooling system. Then let it cool down until you're able to SAFELY remove the raditor cap and top the cooling system off.

Good luck,

Ryan P.

i had a very similar problem on my crx. does the temp gauge vary greatly when you turn on and off the vents? mine did. the problem was a bad ground. caused other weird electrical stuff. check the ground by the battery.

jeez, i shoulda looked at the other post before i posted.

mine starts on h when i first start it up, then it goes to normal for a while, then goes back up, and goes to normal when im on the gas, and when i let off it goes back to h.
i have enough coolant too.

Im throwing a code 6, i changed the sensor and it did nothing. i had to buy a new plug sence the old one broke one of the wires flush at the top. i wired it in and it didnt do anything either. TIA.
