Default flywheel question for d17

I am looking at replacing a flywheel for a 01 LX w/ d17a2. I figured it would be a good time to upgrade to a light weight flywheel since I have always been happy with them in 5th and 6th gens. I just was curious if it is worthwhile doing in a 7th gen beings that it is a heavier car. So my main question is, do any of you d17 guys run lightweight flywheels and what are your opinions on it in your 7th gen.

why would u replace the flywheel in the 1st place?

I usually only do it when i need to replace the clutch, since everything is already out.

My guess is it will show similar gains to the older gens, as we are only 2400 lbs, and 6thgen coupes arent to much lighter.

IMO, it wouldnt b worth it unless you were already redoing the clutch.

There are a whole bunch of flywheeels available, i would probably go with a little bit heavier of a clutch than a <10lb'er.

Or u can always lighten the stocker.

check out http://www.dezod.com for a HUGE selection of available flywheels.

And this is a plug for ACT. but IMO they are the best honda clutch ever. My old CRX, which was N/A ripped apart a clutchmaster, which is sad. but the ACT HD clutch held together like a pro, even after 2+ years of stop and go traffic ( i commute 130kms+ a day). So i highly reccommend their products.

The reason I am replacing the flywheel is due to the fact that the ring gear has become loose from the flywheel. The clutch was actually replaced last year when I upgraded the stock d17a1 for an d17a2. The lx tranny is still in the car, though.

As far as the ACT plug, I run an ACT HDSS in my supercharged civic as well as in my wife's h22 w/n20 civic and definitly will say that they make good stuff.

I put an ex motor in an lx. They take the same clutch and flywheel, though. Actually d series civics take the same flywheel from 92-up.

LX = 117
EX= 127

10hp, but i heard its around 10whp on dyno's ( this may be BS tho)

I have heard people call it the best bolton upgrade to an LX tho.

And i wouldnt swap in an EX engine, i would swap the heads only, get a VAFC 2 to get it running, and use ARP head bolts.

That way will be a lot cheaper than a full EX engine.

Another good thing would be to get an EX tranny, as they are a lot shorter geared than our LX tranny's.

Just for clarification, the car isn't mine, it is a car I have done some work on. The ex motor dropped right in. I had to do some wiring for EGR and rewire the o2 sensors as well as some other things I can't remember off the top of my head. The factory engine was hydrolocked and that is why he did the upgrade. Another thing that was done is since it has an ex ecu, the car had to be reprogrammed for the keys.

Back to my origional question, do you guys have any experience and opinions on a flywheel for a 7g civic. Should I put in a 10 lb. like the ACT streetlite or go with a lighter one such as the Fidanza or the Prolite.
