CHECK YOUR COOLANT...it could be a bad sending unit....u sure the smell is not coolant?...My b16 did have a funny odor when i would run it hard.i guess its normal for that smell all my friends motors smell the same way...CRAZY SHYT....
my dad and I picked up my two JDM engines from the yard when they got off the train/truck we loaded them up, too k them home, and porceded to wonder when the fishy smell would dissipate. It did start to fade, and just as that happened, I decided to crack a few headbolts... OH MAN, here comes the rush of smell again, and 10X worse....!
clean CRX man, but definately take out your thermostat and drop it in a pot of wateer on the stove, see if it moves in the water, if it does, its opening in the car too.

yea im going to look for a replacement fan at uwrenchit now that i ran a stronger switch and mounted it. probably a radiator now too just to cover it. but regaurdless of any of it, if the needle goes anywhere near the H, saying that the thermo is good, shouldn't the engine, or at least valve cover be too hot to touch??
change the temp gauge sending unit on the end of the head (the one with single wire connector) below the distributor and see if that fixes it - wire the cooling fan back to the cooling fan switch like it is supposed to be so that it comes on when and only when needed
im having somewhat of the same problem but my fan isnt coming on at all. the fan is fine i tested it and its hooked up the right way and i changed the thermostat yesterday. i havent checked the tempsensor but wouldnt I be flashing a code 6 if that was bad. I did try to jump the wires that go to the tempsensor but it didnt start the fan and I flashed a code 6. maybe bad wiring?
thanks
thanks
there are 3 temp sensor on the engine - one for the temp gauge on the end of the head with 1-wire connector - one for the ECU temp sensor (causes code 6) on the end of the head with 2-wire connector - one for the cooling fan on the back of the block next to the oil filter with 2-wire connector (big round black rubber boot)

so i should jump the one on the back of the block and not the one that does a code 6?
thanks

yes, to check it, disconnect the connector and connect the two wires together - the fan should come on - if it doesn't, either there is a problem in the wiring or in the fan relay - if it does come on, replace that sensor

you could just leave it running all the time or put it on a switch, however, i wouldn't recommend either of those options - i would change out the temp switch
