Default Distributor help.

I pulled off the stock one and bolted the oem replacement on, but accidently moved the fins, or whatever it is called that goes into the head. Also the stock dizzy had another plastic piece over the one that the spark plugs go into that has an actual fin on it, do i remove that and put it on the oem replacement??

Your question confuses me, but I will tell you this. The distributor has two possible ways to go in, on time, or 180 degrees off. One will cause to car to run, the other way it will be very pissed off at you. If you want to remove the little plastic piece (I don't know which one you speak of, pictures are worth millions of words) go ahead and switch it over.

This is the oem replacement on my car right now that is missing that piece and I'm not sure if I need it or not, and am not sure how to take it off either.

if you want you can remove it and put on the replacement one if it will fit to retain that oem look. It really is not needed. someone correct me if im wrong, but i thought the teeth(if you will) on the end of the dizzy are offset so you cant install it out of phase against the camshaft.

in the 2 pictures you showed, the bottom one doesnt have a rotor, so if it still does not, then that is why your car is not running. i assume you know this, but just in case.

the other difference between the 2 is the lower wire cover, which is not strictly neccesary.. but i would run it because the rotor spins pretty fast, and if it somehow rubbed some wires, youll have to run more wires or get a new distributor.

both of those problems can be solved by transferring the parts to the distributor you are going to use. just make sure you tighten the hell out of the rotor, because if it breaks, your gonna have a bad time.

To change this you take the dizzy out, unscrew the fastener from the 2prong tooth that goes in the head. Hold the shaft in the same spot and flip the tooth 180 degrees and reinstall.

I told him to see if the set screw was in and the rotor was set in the right hole. Guess it wasn't.
