i was thinking about an LSD for my si motor, and i just found 3 brands for LSDs. quaife, kaaz and obx. there are some JDM LSDs but they are made just for the B16Bs, so im not going to bother and plus, i heard you need modifications to fit those in.

i was just wondering, is it like a plug and play? im getting my tranny taken out for a new clutch and i was thinkin, might as well put an lsd in too.

what do you guys think or have to say?

It's going to be a bit more labor, you'll have to crack open the tranny, take out the main and countershafts, and remove your stock diff. Then you put it all back together, reseal it, and hope you did it all the right way.

 

lsd isnt plug and play...you have to actually take the tranny apart and take the gears out to get to the differential. have someone quailfied do it for you

I'm not qualified, and I can rebuild a transmission.

i didnt say you werent qualified...i was just sayying he should so he can actually get it done right. ive also installed lsd's its not hard. but it seems like the op has never done it before nor has anyone to show him.

And the shimming of the unit...oh the shimming.
Once you install the lsd diff, you need to replace the case, and use a feeler gauge to measure the gap for shims. Then, with numbers in hand, its off to the dealership to special order the shims - wait about a week for them to arrive, etc

it takes longer than you expect

Hey... she's the reason that transmission finally got cracked. I would have done it myself if I weren't so weak.

 

Have a good transmission shop that knows this install it, I had someone who didn't know what they were doing do it and they just reused the shims when switching my LSD to a new transmission. It's really noisy now and I'm pretty sure it's because it's not shimmed right.
