JDM Type-S in a BB1 - problems?
I might have an opportunity to get a good deal on a Type-S engine and I was wondering if I would be able to use the ECU that comes with it or not. I know that the USDM 5th gen ECU has an immobilizer in it but does the JDM Type-S? If it does, can my H22A1 ECU be used? I've read that a lot of the Type-S's power is made from the tuning of the ECU. So if I used my stock one would I have to use a VAFC to get it to run right?
Are there any other snags I might run into putting this engine in my car?
Thanks in advance.

i'd say ue best bet would be to use ure obd1 harness on it and use and obd1 computer on it like a p13 or p28. u will have to swap over a few parts to convert the motor to obd1 though since its obd2. i had to rewire my injectors so i could use the obd2 injectors on the obd1 harness then i had to swap egr valve, coolant neck, knock sensor, basically just use anything from ure stock motor that u need to.
I'll have to use some sort of tuning program with either of those Ecu's to get it to run right or get the same power as if I was using the Type-S ECU, right?
This has nothing to do with your question: I was just going to say to look at the intake manifold to make sure it's a real Type S engine, which does not have an IAB system in the intake manifold. I believe there also isn't a PGM-FI emblem on the Type S intake manifold. I saw a regular H22 on eBay today with a Type S valve cover, being called a "Type S" and with a selling price of $4,000. I feel sorry for the uninformed person who buys that.
Thanks for the advice.
I thought I read the Type-S had IAB's and Euro-R's didn't. Also, the picture of the Type-S engine on hmotorsonline.com shows PGM-FI on the IM I believe. I could be wrong about both though.
Does the JDM Type-S get a different engine code or is it just H22A?
In regards to the obdI and obdII, could I just use an adapter harness and not have to change all the sensors?

You could be right, my brain is a pos today so I could be wrong on the intake manifold. I am pretty sure that the engine code is still just H22A. As far as the OBD2 harness thing, I don't know.
To compensate for my retardedness here is proof that I am wrong and you are right. The Type S has IAB's, this is a real Type S, you can tell from the oem strut bar and intake tube.

I got the price on the engine and it's no different than any other place. So I think I'll get an obdI base engine when it comes time and put the difference into the build.
Does the JDM ECU have a speed limiter?
Does the JDM ECU have a speed limiter?
I personally haven't topped mine out, but it's been said a thousand times that it does have a speed limiter. People have said anywhere from 113-117mph. Note that Honda also mildly ported the head and intake manifold runners on the Type S engine.
