Default HELP CAR WON'T START! EJ1 .

Hey everyone i know i don't post often but im having some trouble with my car..it just stopped running about 2 weeks ago..im trying to avoid a tow to my mechanics and ive only been able to work on it here and there before work..ok moving on..

I have lights the spark plugs are getting spark..i can hear my fuel pump go on..the start turns the engine over..i have a new battery and recent tune up..

the car just wont RUN ..it just keeps turning over with no complete start..if that makes sense? My mechanic told me to try starter fluid which i havent gotten to yet because it just frickin snowed!!!!!

Anyways anything i might be missing or suggestions? the car is BONE STOCK if that helps and i have my Hayes manual ..and even my factory one (yes amazingly it was in the glove box ! )

thanks guys~!

*****UPDATE!!!***** My father and I got the car running ..thanks for everyones help..its running like a top again..hell even a lil better now ! i brought it to my mechanic for a check over and he said all was good no charge for the look over either..thanks again for all the help.. . it seems like everytime i come on here i either learn something new or get inspired and amazed by the great rides and photographers on here... again thanks ! ( as far as the problem ..no clue probably a flooded engine from needing a tune up so bad and my fuel filter was really clogged so maybe a combo of both?" )

was it running before this happen or after you did the tune up. check to see if your wires are in the correct firing order

is the motor turning over easy as in doesnt sound like there is any compresion? maybe your timing belt broke if you wanna see all you gotta do is take off your distributor cap have someone crank it over and look to see if the rotor spins

does the starter spin, but the engine doesn't catch? or does the engine catch, and the die right away?

My car would turn over forever. I turns out, that when I did the tune up. I didn't connect really good one of the plugs. Everything look normal. Until I check my connections. God I felt so stupid.

Check every connection and fuse. Good luck.

Sounds like my recent problem on my 94 EX Civic and I thought i had spark and come to find out I had no spark. I replaced my distributor and it started right up. So make sure you have spark!

hey thanks for the replies everyone....it was running before the tune up..i just did the tune up because well it needed it so why not ..the wires are all in order .

.umm..the belt is fine we checked that..the starter just keeps clicking it over..i have lights.. if i keep trying to start it for lets say 5 seconds..(dont wanna kill it although its gettin me angry !)..

the engine feels like it wants to start but just well doesnt....i thought fuses too so i checked them..hopefully i didnt miss one ill double check them just to be sure i did them fast.. i dunno ill try what you all suggested and look for those symptoms ..ill get back to you all .

i know this sounds dumb but is there gas in your car? i was low on gas when my alternator went out and from testing/starting it after we finished the car had sucked up all the **** in left over in the tank and wouldnt start filled her back up held the key down for 20-30 seconds a few times and it eventually started and in a little time ran perfect

your car could be flooded with too much fuel, thats my first guess.

second guess is your distributor/cap & rotor?

Did you take the distributor off when you did the tune up? I did that once and re-installed it 180 degrees out-of-time (I know ). My car did the exact same thing, cranked and cranked, and the engine felt like it wanted to start but wouldn't catch.

Maybe it's a testament to Honda that their engines will *almost* run even completely out of time

hey thanks guys ..havent gotten to look at it yet today woke up late ,the car is doing the same thing it did before the tune up so i doubt its the distributor..it feels like its not gettting enough fuel.. or maybe to much?..this may sound dumb but how can i clear the engine incase its flooded ?

to clear the fuel just disconnect the injectors and crank the motor over so that way you dont add more fuel, also if you have a vacuum gauge check your cranking vacuum should be 3-5.... good luck

UPDATE!!!...My father and I used starter fluid today and the engine started!.. changed the pcv valve ..the old one was junk!..the bolts on the old fuel filter are stuck on so we doused it in penatrating oil hopefully they loosen up.. the engine ran quietly for about 20 or so mins..everything up to operating temp.. i took it for a spin around the block..it was idling pretty low so we need to adjust the idle ..and check the timing we just need to find the timing light or get a new one ..i also want to check the compression and leakdown just for good measure .

as far driving it im still a lil skeptical maybe im just paranoid ..still not sure what the exact problem was ... so it started with the starter fluid..and without it ..drove..just not fully satified..

Thanks again everyone you all helped big time!..also if i missed something lemme know ill check it too.
