Here's the basic story of trials and tribulations that I wrote for a local forum I'm on in case you're wondering the whole story of why it was down for so long:
"Might as well explain it all here so I don't have to keep telling the story.
I put 92,000mi on the car in three years by beating the ever living crap out of it 24/7. Anyone in Auburn can vouch for that. During that time I had swapped in some mild cams and decided not to change the timing belt even though it already had a ton of miles. Needless to say at about 85k or so it nicked a few of the valves so I pulled the head and sent it off to be reworked and beef up the valvetrain in the process.
Well I got the head back and the car just never ran right again. On top of that it was burning oil like most higher mileage B18C5's that have been beat to crap so I decided that I was going to pull it apart and buy all kinds of crazy crap for it. I was going to sleeve it, go high compression 2.0 liter, crazy suspension, etc (I just got the FBI job, was living at home at the time and had tons of disposable income).
Anyway I had my suspension on order which was around $1,800, my pistons were in my hand and I was fixing to order my rods so I decided to go ahead and start pulling everything apart. Well I got the motor out and noticed my $1,800 suspension hadn't arrived when it was supposed to. This led to a nearly 8-10 month battle with the shop to get my money back. They just kept promising and promising I would get it but it never showed up until I made a good old Honda-Tech post about it. Magically my money showed up within a week or so.
Of course being out $1,800 and scared I wasn't going to get it back I was pretty hesitant about doing anything else at the moment (I wasn't making THAT much money to just forget about $1,800 lol). Once that was cleared up I got my head sent off to Alaniz technologies (they've got 9 second all motor Honda's so I assumed they were on top of their game) but decided to forget about my crazy 2.0 liter all motor plans and just go factory Honda on the bottom end.
Well 6 months came and went and Alaniz still hadn't got to my head but when he finally did he said 1: It didn't even have all of my valve springs in place and he had no clue how I didn't blow the motor. Thanks to the local redneck head shop for that *sarcasm*. 2: It had terrible heat cracks.
So he finally got my head back to me and did about $1,000 worth of work (re-welded and shaped my chambers, put steel sleeve inserts for my spark plugs, custom tested and matched valve springs from Rocket Motorsports) for only $300 since he had it for so long causing me to give up my Type-R expo spot.
So now it's been down for well over a year at this point and I'm just getting all of the parts back together. I bought a new OEM shortblock and new OEM transmission in the process (my transmission wasn't bad but I just said screw it since used Type-R stuff sells for so much that I could recoup the cost of the new stuff).
During this time I go to the night shift at work and start taking day classes over 1hr away from my house so needless to say it was pretty rough finding time or getting motivated to work on it hardcore. Oh and I moved closer to work during this time and ended up about 1hr away from my car. Anyway, I finally got it back together (thanks guys who came down and helped on the two man parts) and couldn't figure out what the hell was wrong with it. It was doing some weird stuff at first but now it's done and running.
The end."
It's just amazing to be back in it after so long. I've got a ton of little nit picky things left to do before it's perfect again but it's running well, all of the accessories seem to be working fine and the alignment is surprisingly good. The quick list of things to finish/change are.
1. AC belt.
2. A VTEC equipped ECU (I accidentall sold my hatch with it in there so I'm running on a non-VTEC ECU with a Crome map at the moment). Thankfully a new P28 and Neptune RTP setup are on the way and will hopefully be here by the end of the week.
3. Find a permanent place for my crank breather bottle.
4. Get the entire thing detailed.
5. Install a few random missing interior pieces and get the hot/cold slider on the dash working again (I broke the thing in the dash so I have to reach around and pull the cable manually lol).
6. Fresh tires.
7. Put a stock or near stock type (maybe RSR?) exhaust on it. I might wait until I get a new header for that though (cough, black jet coated SMSP, cough). I mean I like the power but I'm getting old now and want something a little quieter. Besides I ran 13's with the stock exhaust anyway so it wan't exactly hurting me THAT bad.
8. Put the thing on a dyno and actually finally dial in my freaking cams.
and finally....
9. Make up for lost time by squeezing in as many track days, autocross and drag events as possible.

I've got Skunk stage 1 cams and a Rocket Motorsports valve train now.
Well actually I got the stage 1's not too long before the car went under. Since I've got the nice valve train now I could see myself upgrading to something that does well with stock compression. That being said I'm not going to be touching anything like that for a while and I'd like to see what I can get out of the mild Skunk's. I went to the track once after I had them installed and the fuel semi-dialed in with a FPR and the car trapped 101mph on a not so good night. I later added only a VAFC, didn't touch the cam gears and picked up another 11whp but I never got back to the track. Being as I had no idea what I was doing with the cam gears at the time and had no other form of tuning I'm thinking I can coax a good bit more out of them.
If the car will run like it did before my goal would be something along the lines of a 13.5@102mph. However, I'll just be happy for it to run anywhere near the 13's my first time back at the track.
Though the main thing I want to do with the car is autocross/track events.
