Default LS Vtec in the CRX?

I know a guy whos willing to setup and install a LS vtec setup in my newly purchased 88 CRX Si for only 1500. 20k miles on the rebuild. Is this a decent price? Should i consider other options?

depending on what it's made with i'd say yes.

Heck even if made poorly for that price i'd do any "needed" things and go with it.

find out exactly what it is.

I agree with everyone else, make sure you find out whats in it first.

Yeah I would ask to make sure he did the golden eagle conversion for it. If not, the motor might not last long without the proper oiling for the vtec head.

We didnt have a choice. I know most of us followed the directions on cpseedracing before the kit,and that's how i still do it..And it's not even 1/4 of the price of the ge full kit.

$1500 is a great price for a stolen setup.

As an owner of an LS-VTEC CRX (also built on a budget) I will tell you that it is a great set up if you build it right... Building it "Right" also can mean lots of different things depending on who you ask. Building an LS-VTEC for $1500 sounds reasonable. Building an LS-VTEC, buying parts to swap in a B-series, and actually going through with the install all for $1500 sounds like theres going to be some corner cutting... but if you know and trust the guy why not?

X3

There is a 98 hatch with an ITR swap for sale near me, Ive seen the car and its clean, the guy wants 4000 for it.

Thats a pretty good indicator of the "honesty of the parts" in the price.

If everything is on the up and up, then yes, thats a good price. Be careful.

1. It's not a stolen setup, this guy has about 5 engines in his garage, is part owner of a shop, and has 2 tegs, and has had several civics.

2. I believe it is a b16 head and a b18 bottom. Not sure.

I trust this guy well enough, he works with T1 racing in the dallas area, which is currently racing a 600+ whp teg, and he has his own 500+whp teg he shows. He was building this engine for his 91 Si but I think he has decided to go a different route, or focus on his teg.

Could be, but as he said it's a shop owner and really if you have parts laying around you can make an lsvtec run safe for 1500 or less, maybe he just needs cash.

I'm asking because I don't know shat about CRXs. I'm still learning all this honda stuff, I barely know enough about my Civic to consider myself educated.

if you think its a good deal, its a good deal.

if you dont, you dont.

its all up to you on what you think is cheap. people have different principals, especially when it comes to bargains.

Sure that may be so, but I would assume people around here would know the general value of those parts. If I came in here saying $5000 for it, i would hope people would let me know thats not good.

out of every B series swap. 25% of them are LS/VTEC pretty much.
