Default Gear Oil in 90' 5 Speed

I just changed the clutch about 1000 miles ago, and replaced the oil in the transmission with 10w 40 motor oil like it recommended in the book. But now when sometimes when I shift into 3rd gear it grinds a little, and doesnt engage smoothly. I was wondering if I put regular gear oil in the transmission would it be bad for it? And will this problem with 3rd gear possibly go away?

GM Synchromesh my friend, it'll save you alot of trouble helps with grinds like no other, the other alternative is Honda MTF rather than the motor oil. You can buy that at a Honda Dealership and get the Synchromesh from a GM dealer

you can also get the little bottles of GM LSD additive from the Honda dealer; they stock them for use in the passports rear diff. add one little bottle for each fluid change.
I'd vote for a lighter weight oil as well. 10w30 maybe

It takes like 2 quarts right? How much would that cost of Honda MTF or Syncromesh? And if I don't stop the grinding will it eventually get worse?

I made the mistake of using 10W30 in my 90 Accord; long story short, I had to replace the transmission (shop wanted $1100 to rebuild the original one). Use the Honda MTF. 2 quarts will be less than $10 (I think).

Odd to see that; 10w30 or 10w40 was the designated fluid for that year because Honda didn't have their own MTF fluid at that time.
