Haven't seen these mentioned lately: Nike MAXSIGHT

Sorry about the fuzzy image, my camera broke, so i'm using my wife's $100 radio shack special...
As the title states, i haven't seen these mentioned lately, anyne actually tried them yet?
I was at the optometrist yesterday and mentioned I was interested in trying them out for AutoX/HPDE duty. As it turns out he had some in stock in my perscription, so he gave me a trial pair. I was fully ready to buy a box, so this came as a pleasant suprise.
They came in a nice pouch with the "swoosh" and B&L logos on it, inside was the pair of lenses, two cases (one for your normal lenses, one for the nikes - this was especially bonus, as it had never occured to me that i'd need two cases to swap lenses
) and a small bottle of fluid - perfect to carry the lenses to an event, and keep your normal enses safe while there. Again, a pleasant suprise, as i expected to have to figure out all this on my own, likely the hard way.One thing that suprised me was how ORANGE the lenses are - all the pictures I had seen looked amber, almst teh colro of, say, blu-blocker sunglasses, but they are more the color of a ripe pumpkin - the wife says she might not be able to look me in teh eye with them in, as the color looks "scary." If i get especially adventurous at Sno*drift this weekend I may test that theory

Anyone tried these yet? it's well into the silly season up here, and both of ou "race" cars are down anyway, so I can't review the lenses themselves yet, but I am interested in hearing observations from others.
they are designed to improve contrast, primarially to make ***** easier to see in such sports, but there was discussion that the increase in contrast may help in motorsports to spot camber changes, undultions in the surface, and visual cues of braking, turn-in, and apex points.
They cost the same as my continuous wear lenses (both B&L and focus) ($49/box at 1800contacts...) but this pair was a free trial. i visited nike's vision websight and they had a link to order a trial pair as well.

Thanks for the reminder. I tried to search for these once but I couldn't remember the brand. I printed out the free trial coupon and will ask my friend who is an optometrist to get me a pair since he has my prescription in his office.
I wonder if people would be interested in a group buy on these? Something like perhaps buying 4 or 6 boxes each for a discount.

I am seeing an optomotrist this week, and one of my to-dos is to get some of these.
I'll be testing them out shortly thereafter, and probably running them at 100 Acre Wood.
Good luck at Sno-Drift

Do they impair your ability to detect road hazards, like oil? A lot of motorcycle racers stay away from iridium, and mirrored visor shields because their properties make distinguishing oil on the the road hard. I've heard one or two stories about riders being caught out when somebody drops oil on track and they just can't see it. I'd hate to find out about the same thing with these the hard way...

they come with a big sheet that basically says "under no circumstanes should you wear these away from the event"
the tint likely makes it difficult to make out colors somtimes - not to mention they make you look posessed
There has to be someone who's tried them... people hav ebeen saying they wanted to for almost two years now

Man, my eye doctor told me that he couldn't get trial pairs, and that I'd have to buy a box to try them....
I have seen at least 1 person using them at an event, and they said the cones are much more visible at speed.

I have an orange visor for my helmet, whch functionally does the same thing. I primarily autocross, and it really makes the cones "pop" out against the background, it also helps me see if the surface has changed or has rubber, oil, gravel, and other stuff on it.
I don't w2w race, but I wear the helmet karting and have no trouble with flag colors.

I asked about them a while ago:

My eye doctor does not carry them, so I never tried them.

I have a pair of Ray-Ban's that I bought this summer, and out of curiousity I put 'em on in my helmet. They did wonders on making the orange cones stand out against the background without distorting colors.
Here's an interesting link on colors of sunglasses, and what each is suited for:

As for the oil slicks, I could see that happening in a polarized lens (because all reflections are toned down), but iridium/reflective lenses don't really change the ability to see reflections.

I often wear orange tinted sunglass lenses when its overcast. Started doing it when mt. biking years ago, and carried it over to racing. I like the extra contrast, but in the end I dont think it makes much difference. Yours eyes adjust to it either way.
Wore them to run sweep for Sno*Drift this weekend - I do not have any A/B comparison, as i put them in at the beginning of the day each day, but i was able to easily see differences in teh surface, be it ace/snow, or just contours in teh snow, and marshall vests (bright orange) and cones practically glowed compared to the background, so i can imagine for autox they could be advantageous. Also, given peoples response to seeing me wearing them, which ranged from "those are so cool" to "are you a vampire?" I could see the intimidation factor being good as well
Were you competin at Sno-Drift? Which car?
I had my Optomotrist Appointment today, they are ordering me some of these so we'll give it a go at 100 Acre Wood in February.
I'm going to do an Regular Lens vs. these face off at an autocross earlier in the season, so can see if it is hype or not.

I brought this up about a year ago.......
I like the idea but someone had a very very great point.....How about having to remove them while you're at the track? I wouldn't want my hands anywhere near my eyes during a Track Day.

removing them is no problem - liek i said, they include two cases and my optometrist gave me a mini bottle of solution.. run to teh bathroom, wash my hands, pull out the "nike" case, remove the lenses, pull out the other case, put my clear lenses back in.
