I can't open the hood of my 1997 3.2 TL.

I can't open the hood of my 1997 3.2 TL.
I can pull on the release on the inside of the car, but the hood won't release. I am not sure it the cable has snapped, or just loose. Any idea how to open the hood without the use of the hood release?
