Justin Hall got really lucky there... if happened at the slowest corner at Laguna Seca and the car was straight already.

I'd never be comfortable using one of those quick releases on the street. That was a close call.I like how most people use them so that they can dangle their wheel from the rear-view mirror at jdm car shows.

Is that what it is? Or should I just not consider a QR for track use? I can't imagine that happening in a turn, and bumpsteer throwing the car off course

I use a Sparco quick release and a deep-dished Sparco 325 steering wheel on my daily (for now) driven '94 Teg RS and I love it. My bent arms give much better mechanical advantage than the stock setup. In addition, with the Sparco quick release, I have never had a problem knowing that the wheel was locked securely unlike the Smart products QR I have on my race car. I will be putting a Sparco unit on my racecar as soon as possible.
For the record, if your car comes equiped with airbags then it is federally illegal to switch to a non airbag steering wheel for street driven cars. So, you're on your own if a cop pulls you over with a QR setup.

Any car produced for the states since 1989 has to either have a driver side airbag or automatic seat belts. The automatic seat belts were only around a few years before the driver side airbag was required. Dual front airbags were required by 1998.
The only 92+ Civic or Integra that didn't come with at least a driver side airbag, that I can think of, are some of the Japanese models.

For reference, in Canada it is illegal for a shop or dealership to disable the airbags, without written consent from the owner and some special paperwork (government forms) that indicate a need to have it removed.
It is NOT illegal to remove them yourself, as I have done.

I'll second Johnny on the mechanical advantage thing. I cant reach my blinkers without taking my hand off my wheel, but its a small price to pay.

My US 93 integra doesn't have any airbags. I think that was the last year of that though.

air bags are prime examples of stupid bureaucracy in many levels in usa. they should be OPTIONAL like in japan, not mandatory. too much regulation in usa where some ppl always think they have answer to everything. well, they don't.
recently i came to learn that, if i want to have more freedom, it is actually what republican is all about, not democratic.. i was a bit shocked at that... but still, it will be hard for me to get into politics because i hate that crap so much...
going way off topics here. heheh.
