bad axle.. driveable?
Quick question...
The joint that attaches to the wheel on my passenger side front axle "exploded" throwing grease everywhere as I drove along. Now it occasionally makes a clanking noise at speeds at or below about 35mph. I am getting new axles from advanced but they wont be in til next wednesday or thursday and i have class all next week. My question is would it be okay to drive on it while i am waiting on the parts? Its only a 10-15 commute each way with the bulk of it being on the highway (just 2 exits). I would baby the turns and avoid any bad roads of course.. Any Input?
thanks!

As long as it is just the rubber boot that is damaged, you'll be fine till you can get the axles in, just don't wait after you get them.
Safe would be not to drive it I guess, but if it was my car I wouldn't hesitate to drive it. Actually - I did drive my car that way (for probably too long).

Honestly it should be fine. I know people who have driven on bad axles for thousands of miles. The only problem is if the axle is missing the bearings. If its just missing the boot. it should be fine for a week or so definitely.

well i just had to drive it.. it changed from a clanking noise to a high pitch squeal. dammit i hate cars that have that. oh well, its only for a week. oh yea, but it only squeals when i'm not on the gas or break. thanks for reassuring me that i should be fine..

dude drive it. just take it easy on turns were the axel is. if its making a clicking noise when you turn then you may want to change it asap. but if its not you will be fine. i drove my car for 4months before i changed it and even then it was still working fine.
