Default Lx to SI

So I've been talking it over with my dealer and it looks like it's going to cost me about $7,000 or so to trade my LX up to an SI, a 2007 Fiji blue Coupe. I have just a few questions on this, and yes, I did search It answered a few of my questions... So here we go.

1) What are some of the less-obvious differences between the base models and the SI? I mean besides things like the engine, tranny, limited-slip, etc?

2) Can this thing be driven on regular fuel without problems? I have no problem putting premium in it for a few cents more, but my wife is pretty adamant on believing the car doesn't NEED premium, so she refuses to fill up with that. Would there be any problems if she used that instead of premium?

3) The VSA the new 07's have is the only thing keeping me from buying a used 06 si on the lot. How well does this work? And can it be turned off? There are times when I would like there to be NO traction control. During the winter, however, I would want it on since even my LX spins tires like mad even on light acceleration.

4) How do you find the performance of the car to be in slick weather conditions, such as packed snow on the ground with the VSA? When I drive the wife's oddyssey with traction control, snow isn't a problem at all. I sit in the civic.. the wheels just spin, even with the pedal pushed in (stock tires, which is a large part of the prob).

Suspension, Interior,Exhaust note, Exclusive colors

If your already trying to be a cheap *** ... just keep the LX, using regular fuel will eventually give you a CEL the car is required to have specific fuel..use it.

[b] Regardsless of VSA or not.. in snow.. you will have SOME issues... it will cut some power in slipping situations but nothing Insane.[/b[

The Si has horsepower, an amazing 6 spd tranmission, serious brakes, LSD, electronic power steering, performance oriented suspension, red display(s), sportier interior, and small other ques that make it MUCH more exciting than a base model.

I would ONLY run 91+ octane but if you decide to put a lower grade fuel in the ECM will notice it and compensate the timing in order to prevent detonation. Just run 91+ tho!!!

Yes the VSA can be turned off. It works quite well under certain conditions and can save your *** on some ocassions.

My Si doesnt have VSA but I imagine that with the proper tires and the VSA on you wont have a problem in the snow. My si(even on SUMMER tires) does suprisingly well... the ABS/EBD do a great job.

well probably the least noticeable difference for the Si, is that there is a thin strip of amber round the bulb in the headlights. You can see it here.

There are a lot of small differences though. Trust me when I say this, if you get an Si you will love it.

One of the reasons (among a refined engine, 6 spd tranny, lsd, etc) is that I can switch from a 4 door to a coupe. The 4 doors just look plain ugly to be. If they just fixed the rear-end of it...

Yeah that Mugen civic is quite hot, but somehow I just don't see that being feasible to me.

Problems? Yes as X stated the car NEEDS premium. You should probably stick with the LX then if it's gonna cause tension between you and your lady.

Ehh, I think I might get more action in the SI.

Haha kidding, but don't tell the wifey that I guess I just won't let drive the car if she can't put premium in it.

1) What are some of the less-obvious differences between the base models and the SI? I mean besides things like the engine, tranny, limited-slip, etc?

- Subtle differences also, orange halos in the lights, wheels, power steering i believe is different. sound system is better than DX/LX.... the rear brake light is in the wing, not in the glass...

2) Can this thing be driven on regular fuel without problems? I have no problem putting premium in it for a few cents more, but my wife is pretty adamant on believing the car doesn't NEED premium, so she refuses to fill up with that. Would there be any problems if she used that instead of premium?

- If its YOUR car, she should respect it, if its both of your cars, you need to explain to her that it is DESIGNED for higher octane fuel, explain to her what OCTANE is, and how it works in the engine.

3) The VSA the new 07's have is the only thing keeping me from buying a used 06 si on the lot. How well does this work? And can it be turned off? There are times when I would like there to be NO traction control. During the winter, however, I would want it on since even my LX spins tires like mad even on light acceleration.

- We just had a huge (i say huge, huge for texas) winter storm come through here, and while Ive NEVER driven in ice before, I had no problem maintaining control in my 06 si... i spun my tires very slightly when taking off, but if you know how to control your revs and let the engine do all your braking, you dont need VSA or special tires... though they help... Oh, and im running on the already poor traction summer tires.

I use the VSA pretty much all the time. At first the "VSA" button threw me off. I've been in a couple 06 si's and I didn't remember seeing it there til I got my 07. The 07 also has different floor mats, and slightly(and i mean VERY slightly) darker rims.

Going from the lx to the si you'll also notice the steering is much tighter. Notice the leather wrapped steering wheel too.

Ok that right there pretty much seals the deal

I HATE the steering wheel on my LX, it feels like crappy foam, and I cringe every time I accidentally slide my hand across it when I turn. Feels like I'm gonna rub off little ***** of foam or something

I was kidding

If the wheel added a 6sp tranny and 60 more hp to my car, then I would go with that.
