Default tryin to make horsepower on a budget (everyones goal)

Hey whatup everybody, my name's Avery and I just got my first motor.
(OBD1 B18A)

Im trying to make about 265 hp by

1.sending my head out to this place called cylader head exchange to get cleaned up (dont really want to put alot of money into the valve-train except cams)

2.some new cams dont really know how much duration or lift I want, but I know its gonna be for street use. maybe you guys have something in mind

3. I want to bore the block out .020" just to clean the cylander walls (will this cause my sleeves to crack since they are already so thin.) along with the boring i want to add new pistons and rods

4. all new seals throughout the motor (valve guides, main bearing, gaskets)

1. Cleaning will do little to get you to your HP goal. You should consider some porting.

2. Read one of the many camshaft comparison threads.

3. You can usually bore 1mm without worrying about going too thin...

4. Good idea, but will do little for your HP goal...

I'd say that you have much to learn... Start reading...

265 is a long shot, on a budget its more of a dream.

not going to happen N/A. Search around here and read a few buildups in the HP range you're talking and you'll realize how unrealistic it is.

Especially since this is a non-vtec motor.

Avery, check out b19coupe's thread about his non-vtec build:

https://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=1765855

This guy is serious about his motor. All out, no expense spared and he might hit 250hp.

Basically your list entails a fresh nearly stock rebuild. If you wanna keep it inexpensive, run OEM .25" oversized p30 pistons which will give you about 11:1 C/R, Crower cams, and please use ARP rod bolts. I spun a rod bearing on my bone stock LS motor road racing at 5k RPM after being at the 7k redline the entire day. Lastly, tuning will get you every little last % of HP you will ever think of getting. See who tunes what kind of management in your area and run with that (Crome, Neptune, Hondata, etc.) With this and the proper bolt-ons, you should hit about 170-180 whp.

Here is a few other threads you should check out by hybrid_vtec on his non-Vtec build:

https://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=1124823

https://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=1369722

And I am being way nicer than a few other people might be when they chime in. You know they are going to.

thanks alot for the info

This is a long-term thing. I is probally best for me to just build the bottom end and slap the stock head back on with new valve seals so that I can save some money and get a V-tec head. Here in florida they cost a grip($600)

I was going to put some mild cams in the non V-tec head but after talking to someone, I think its better to just start with something better and improve on that. Isnt that the reason for doing an engine swap ttt

It can happen, but he's already complaining about heads costing a "grip" it's the road we walk when making power. If it were all that easy everyone and anyone would be doing it. Goodluck man.
