Default problems with key removal

My girlfriend has a 1990 Accord Lx. For some odd reason the car doesnt like to let you take the key out of the ignition. When the car is park and running, it doesnt show that the car is in park on the dashboard. If you proceed to take the key out without the dashboard indicator showing "p", the key won't come out. Also, when the "park" light is not on and the car is left running, the car will slowly build rpm's until about 2000 rpm, then drop to about 700rpm, and repeat this until the park light comes on. Also, the shift lock won't release the gear shifter. Since I have no clue as to what the problem is, any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

I figure that is one way to deal with it. I am just so confused as to what causes it. And, whether or not the solution is cheap or not.

Yea, try telling or teaching my girlfriend patience. It just doesn't work.

the first thing I'd try is a new key from the dealer, there is a pin at the bottom of the ignition switch that the key needs to push, so a worn out key or slightly under sized aftermarket key can cause problems, like the key not going all the way back to the lock position.
The shift lock not releasing the shifter could be the brake light switch or the solenoid under the console; the solenoid should make enough noise to hear when you step on the brake; I've seen lots of them gummed up from spilled coffee/cola.
So far as the RPM I'd check that there is a little slack in the throttle cable.
Often times people will use the cable tension to bump up the idle speed.
