How about if someone were able to hack the ABS system to implement stability control in an ITR?

WTF? I doubt that would be very doable, since there are some parts missing. For one, a stability system needs to be able to apply braking when there is no force on the break pedal, I don't think our ABS would have any way of doing that.

Plus, I thought stability control systems transfered power kind of like an LSD, and not just applied braking?

From what i understand, most stability systems use braking to work their magic. Anything past that would require some fairly advanced goodies, like active differentials and whatnot.

Ed - I like you how got the grammar right in the title, but borked it in your post

As I started saying last night, there are indeed some "parts missing", otherwise we'd already have it (stability control) in our cars.
Thos missing parts would be either or both of a 2 axis (X-Y) accelerometer and a yaw sensor, not to mention a control system to implement the intended function.

<TABLE WIDTH="90%" CELLSPACING=0 CELLPADDING=0 ALIGN=CENTER><TR><TD>Quote, originally posted by Ford Prefect &raquo;</TD></TR><TR><TD CLASS="quote">For one, a stability system needs to be able to apply braking when there is no force on the break pedal, I don't think our ABS would have any way of doing that.</TD></TR></TABLE>

A stability control system in general does not need an operator's foof on the brake pedal in order to function. An example of this is when it would start it's functioning to keep a car from spinning out of control in a turn.

"Our ABS" would need to be additionally controlled so as to send additional signals to the ABS modulator (the thing that sends the brake fluid pulses to each of the brake lines, up behind the passenger headlight), in relation to not only the individual wheel speed signals, but also with respect to the lateral state of the car relative to some allowed limit values.

BTW -- the 07 Si is supposed to have stability control, and I was just wondering how many of those components might be usable for an ITR.
