I've heard that you could modify an OBD-II dizzy to fit on a OBD-I motor (for purposes of running an OBD-I motor in an OBD-II car) - opposed to re-wiring the distributor plug.

Does anybody have a write-up or "how to" or anything on how to modify the OBD-II dizzy to fit?

 

just swap the whole harness, you should pull the dash, seats, carpet, taillights, gas tank, and fenders to do this, its a good 3 days worth of work, but the best way.

So you want to modify an OBD2 dizzy to fit on an OBD1 engine
Because you want to want to run an OBD1 engine in an OBD2 car?

I'll tell you want. Send me your OBD2 Dizzy, $30 and I'll send it back, ready to work in an OBD2 car

 

obd-1 and obd-2 dizzys are the same just have different plugs and colors

if you want to run obd-1 on a obd-2 car you can just use a obd-2 dizzy and it hooks to your harness...

or you put a obd-2 plug on the obd-1 dizzy and hook it to your harness

this works great for bseries cuz obd1 and 2 have the same bolt pattern..
for dseries you don;t lucky.. so you always use the dizzy that match the head you got

actually ALL 88-00 sohc dizzies have the same bolt pattern except the obd1 vtec version. the only differance besides that is obviously the plug per obd. and 88-95 are identical except plug while 96+ are differant internally.

 

What exactly are you doing? If you want to change obd's i say best way to do it is gut the dist. you have and swap it over. Ive done it with many dist. and never had a problem. Integra and Civic both the same internals (obd1 and obd2).

lol, you're missing the point here too.

 

when i think sohc i only think about sohc vtec.
don;t mess with 1.5 or 1.6 non vtec heads

For all the people who are asking what I'm doing, and offering suggestions on sending it out, and offering suggestions on changing harnesses, etc. Thanks, I <u>really appreciate</u> the fast help. That's not what I meant though.

My D16Z6 is fine - this isn't ONE particular motor swap or anything.

I just heard that you could modify the OBD-II dizzies to work as OBD-I and vice versa. I was just looking for a how-to or write-up or pinout diagram. I was just curious. This isn't a particular swap or anything :-\.

Oh, I completely missed this the first time I read.

Yeah, that's what I was gonna say, b/c I didn't think it lined up, didn't know that was only on the VTEC version though.

So say I have a Z6 dizzy and want it to work on a Y7 or Y8 motor. Is there anyway to ad it or would my best bet be to just get a B7 or B8 dizzy so it'll bolt up?

Still curious about the wiring diagrams though (I'm assuming it's just swapping the plug ends, or is there more involved?)

 

 

all the colors match up just depin you dizy and put the plug(s) you need on.

So all I need to do is swap the plug ends, match the wire, and as long as it's a not an OBD-I VTEC everything will work right and such?

 

nope you gotta swap the harness, dont forget to remove the dash.
