Default quick/easy shift linkage question

This probably sounds kind of stupid. I'm doing an auto-manual swap, and I bought the shift linkage. The shifter rod (the one that goes from the shifter to the transmission) bends out and then in. Is that correct? If so, which way should it bend (left/right)? It did not come attached to the shifter, so I am not sure of the correct orientation. To make this simple: If I'm sitting in the driver's seat of my car, looking down through the floor, which way should the shifter rod bend as it goes from the shifter to the transmission?

I have Helms and Haynes. The ebay listing looks like right-left, rather than left-right. Thanks for the link. If anybody has a definite answer, please let me know.
