Short Shifter Questions
I just ordered a short shift adapter:

and I realize that all it's doing is moving the load (linkage) to a higher point on the shift lever (closer to the center of rotation).
Basic lever principles in action. It shortens the throw, but also increases the force necessary to actuate.
What i was wondering is, why doesn't anyone make an adapter that will move the load MUCH further down the lever (1"+) and make the throw a lot shorter?
What kind of problems will this cause? It seems like the only issue would be excessive strain on the adapter.

(Also, does anyone have info on how the "real" short shifters work to shorten the throw?)

well the short shift adapter cover the second part (moving the point where the shift cable attaches to the level).
in my mind it seems that well made adapter bracket and cutting down the shift lever should perform as well as an entire new assembly, unless i'm missing something.
i'm still wondering why they don't make an adapter that will move the shift cable attachment point a lot and thereby shorten the throw a great deal.

Most of people's worries with ebay adapters and what not is the quality, it's really hit or miss with them. I would suggest throwing down some money on it. Just looking at the craftsmanship the Pspec ones looks like it's 20 times better materials wise than the ebay one. It's really up to you though
