As was told by a freind. My freind came out of his apartment this morning, as he was walking toward his car in the parking lot, he saw this 2 teenagers in a car that's identical to his (same year, model and color) with his license plate on it (but parked at the different place). His first thought was, ****, they stole my car. But when he looked inside the car, he realized the interior amenities are a little off (leather seats and different rear view mirror) so he was relaxed a little.. But why would his plates be on their car?? Just when he was thinking this over, the two teenage backed out and took off. Then he ran to his car to see if his car is still there, and thank god, it's still there. But the funniest thing is his plates is definitely gone but now he has on a different plate.. WTF?? Why would someone swap plates like this? Could it be that the teenage stole a car, try to look for an identical car so they can use that plate instead of the one they stole? I would understand if this is happened to a high end car but on a 02 Camry??? Scratching head..

 

Camrys have high stolen rates. and yes that sounds like a possibility. if i was a thief and i stole a car, switching license plates would be high on the "to do" list.

 

i hope your friend reported it to the police right away.

well, when cops are looking for a camry of that color with the plates that are reported stolen, your friend gets pulled over and they don't....he needs to call the police and report his plates if he hasn't done so yet.

 

No one buys stolen cars...people buy stolen car parts.

Either that or they were gonna do somethin illegal (ie. Robbery) and were gonna switch plates back later, or let the fake ones on his car so it looks like he swapped them and is the guilty party.

 

Yeah, this is what I was thinking (robbery) and just dump the plates somewhere. He reported right away and went to DMV and got a new plate.

camry's and accord's are the most stolen cars...just bad karma for your friend that they picked his car to ****** plates from...good move by going to dmv!!! was everything cool with his car though??? hope so...peace!!!

 

Shady body shops buy the parts. It is the most popular car (or one of them) in America, so parts are always needed. Has nothing to do w/ performance appeal like the ITR. It's all about the wide spread ownership & service needs of the car.

man there has to be something done with these stupid thefts. i'd love to be on a volunteer task force to get this criminals locked up. it's like j00 have to get wheel locks, clutch lock, auto lock, brake lock, hood lock, seat lock, power lock, steering wheel lock, denver boot, shesh. i swear, I got my PD,LAPD, Sherrif numbers, 911 all ready on my cell phone. To thieves, if I find j00, "I'm gonna git j00 sucka!"
