Default vtec is always on.

I just did a swap for a friend its a gsr in a 92 hatch automatic. when the solioned is plugged in it sputters and acts funny until it warms up, but when its unplugged its fine, idles fine and everything just no vtec. so i assume the vtec soloined is always on. how do i fix it besides putting it on a switch? thanks for ur help

it won't even stay running at idle unless u keep ur foot of the gas, its kinda like a big cam or something

you have wiring issues. vtec wont be "on" unless the engine is up to operating temps and you have enough oil pressure.

92's are prewired right?if its not on then how come when i unplug it the car does fine and stays running?

best thing to do is to start checkin your wiring, become one with your volt-ohm meter and helms manual.

Just cut the ground wire at the solenoid until you figure out what the hell is wrong with it.

you will damage the vtec runing it at idle.. what ecu your running? is it chipped.. ecu by default you need to be moving for vtec to come on..

Its the vtec sloenoid. If you took it apart, separated into two parts by taking out the three screws. There is a round metal piece with a hole in it that controls the flow of oil, put it back if not get another one. I had my boy being a good person switched mine because it was cracked and he dropped that piece and forgot to put it on and i had the same problem as you. First I noticed car was hard to start, hard to idle, it was louder like when the vtec kicks in (lucky i did not get a ticket), there was a click in the valve train and can ran like ****. GOOD LUCK.
