Ebay "high" flow cat (resonated test pipes)
I was wondering if it would make my car louder? I just purchased a RSR exhaust system and would rather have the true tone of the exhaust. I can purchase a used oem catalytic converter for the same price of those ebay "high" flow cats (resonated test pipes) and don't want to make my car any louder...let me know
well its not really a test pipe, its resonated. so i just wanted to know if it makes my any louder..im not too worried about emissions since i have a oem exhaust system with the cat welded to the bpipe anyways..which one should i go with?
WTH!? In one breath you say <U>"I can purchase a used oem catalytic converter for the same price"</U> & <U>"I just purchased a RSR exhaust system"</U>.
Then you say:

So which one is it?
First of all, if you have an OEM exhaust it already has a resonator in the b-pipe, and the converter would have been bolted on, NOT welded on.
Second, an eGay pipe is still just a "test pipe". IE - Illegal for street use IN ALL 50 STATES, PERIOD. You will fail emissions and risk fines + having your car impounded, so yea go for it.
Third, if you did just buy an RSR "full" exhaust, it will also have a resonator in the b-pipe so you don't need another one.
Forth, you are less likely to get caught but FYI, it is still illegal to purchase a used converter.
Get a "real" high flow converter and you will have nothing to worry about. Something like Magnaflow or other name brand. Contact SMSP on this board.

Let me make it more clear for you. My stock bpipe has my catalytic converter welded to it. It is not longer a bolt on affair to any other b pipe, in this case, my RS*R b pipe. I just purchased a RS*R exhaust system and no longer have a catalytic converter to bolt onto my RS*R system. I am asking if the Resonated test pipe is going to make the car any louder because it is not just a test pipe. Instead, it is more like a resonator, taking the place of the cat. I found a used catalytic converter locally that will be a bolt on affair to my RS*R exhaust system. I was simply asking if the ebay RESONATED "high flow cat" (not really a cat) will make my RS*R exhaust any louder because that is not what I am looking for. If it doesn't, I would rather purchase it because it's the same price of a used Cat and I don't even know the true condition of the used stock cat. I am not worried about emissions because I can simply put back on my Stock exhaust system that has the catalytic converter welded to the b pipe.

from what i've heard of cheap ebay exhausts, the resonating material inside will wear out pretty quick and it'll soon become just like a regular hollow pipe.
I can only assume it would be the same for a test-pipe/resonator

I am glad you made it more clear just for me, as I am sure your post made perfect sense to everyone else.
Yes, I know exactly what eGay "cats" are. Why don't you save yourself some time (and possibly money) and have a shop cut your old converter off and put flanges on it? Then you will be back to "bolt-on".
Any "test pipe" will make an exhaust system sound loud, raspy & generally like ****. Will just a resonator be louder than a converter, hard to say, but most likely it will.
Being in CA you should be concerned with emissions, as I said you could get impounded for something so stupid, and proven to be a worthless mod on a N/A street car. You have nothing but noise to gain, and a lot to loose. Good choice.

I used to run an ebay "resonated" test pipe with my DC 4-1 and Greddy SP setup, on an LS. It was raspy as hell, but if you don't mind the noise then there are gains to be had with a test pipe vs. cat.
Personally, I'm going with a cat on my next exhaust setup, to hopefully get a better sound out of my exhaust.
