That's some ghetto-jerry-rig'ed set up.

To the OP--keep the stock intake if all you're going to be doing is just a filter on a stick. If you really need more sound, just take the top cover off.

its not for sound i was just wondering because i was talking to a few people at a local shop and one said that he put a k&n filter from a aem intake on his stock intake arm because he didnt feel like buying a sri and it performed just as good.
he also said it was just as loud. but i was wondering if anyone here ever did it and if so does it give the same performace as a sri?

I believe unless you get a J's whale pee-pee intake, most of the under-the-hood intakes don't result in any gains--and actually might lose a few HP.

Also, K&N filters suck. See bobistheoilguy.com

Not sure I agree with the whole K&N sucks thing.
I've been using one for ~4 years with no problems.
I do not believe that the filter oil, when applied properly, gets sucked up into the engine, nor do I believe that more, smaller particles get through.
I'd have to see ALOT more testing...

I would say that a K&N on the end of the stock arm with no cover is pretty much equivalent to an SRI.

FWIW if I had it all to do over I'd go Mugen, I just don't really like the fitment of the Comptech Icebox, or the fact that I had to hack up a stock filter and super glue plastic pieces onto my K&N cause I didn't feel like shelling out 95$ for the out of the box solution.

Here's my bay last year with an Apexi power intake.

It made ALOT OF NOISE and that is about it.

Here's my bay this year with a Mugen intake.

Its very quiet and makes lots and lots of down low to mid range power.
I have been kicking myself ever since I got it because I don't know why I waited so long to get it.

Your BEST bet would be to save up for the Mugen (no matter what) or just simply use a drop in filter in your stock box.

YES.
There where serious power gains made with the addition of the Mugen intake. Everything about the caR's responsiveness and power where greatly improved in all aspects with it. It is well worth the $$$ and track and dyno proven with perfect OEM fitament. How does it get any better than that?

Yeah, I'd say the first pic was much like a sri.

GO MUGEN. I would bet every owner in this room and thread will tell you the same.
