Default Intake performance

So I read up on ht that a intake is a intake,

First of All I would like to say, I KNOW THAT YOU WOULD NOT FEEL THE DIFFERENCE IF YOU ARE JUST CHANGING THE INTAKE AND HAVE NOT DONE ANY OTHER MODIFICATIONS.

What there be a difference with a COLD AIR PIPE W/ K&N Filter

or AEM/Injen Pipe/Filter.

If I understand your question, NO. If so it will be extremely minimal. Are the filters sold with these intake reusable tho? because K&N is.

Injen are reusable.. at least the RD intakes are

but definitely the best intake you can get is a 3" tubing , make it CAI or SR... but have it matched up BPi Velocity stack!

check out , also search the filter on HT and your see a lot of people use it.

Actually, you will feel a little difference depending on what size/length tubing you use.

I'm selling my Comptech icebox to get a SRI w/ A BPI stack inside a K&N. I'm changing manifolds so I would have to buy another $180 Arm from Comptech to make it work and that's going to be wayyyy to much money to spend on an intake, including the price I paid for the box/arm. I look forward to running the BPI v. stack.

No, there won't be a noticable difference.

Will a BPI velocity stack and filter fit inside a Comptech Icebox housing?

Default FV-QR

They are all just a pipe with a filter on the end.

performance will be negotiable, but the sound of each may be a little different.

I disagree...pipe length and diameter play an important role in determining flow...filter quality and construction is an issue to...D

that's probably why you can find "cold air intake" on ebay for like $10-20. you get what you pay for.. if that ebay stuff was any good, aem/injen/k&n would be out of business!

well do you guys think the BPI filter will fit on my Injen RD tubing? afraid the BPI filter will be to big ,lenght and width wise... is it worth buying the 3" BPI filter and just try it?

oh and I would so buy that Comptech icebox, only if it fit a LS

BPI makes velocity stacks, not filters.

On the BPI site they have a comparison between an Icebox with the Comptech filter and the BPI stack W/O any air filter.

The Icebox with air filter dynos at 200 and the BPI stack W/O a filter dynos in at 210. It is a 10 hp difference, which is a 5% gain over the icebox.

However, wouldn't most of that increase over the Icebox mostly be due to the lack of an air filter? I am sure the Icebox would have produced more power as well if they took the air filter off. A 5% increase does not sound unrealistic.

It didn't seem like a fair comparison to me.

^ um i beg to differ good sir the ebay 3 inch short ram i had on my old RS worked better for me then any other intake that i have tried b4 injen coldair and aem v2. Pple like certain brands so they buy namebrand **** I on the other hand buy w/e works best for me in this case it was the ebay shortram.

I remember people saying CAI's do not chart well on dynos. I saw that dyno, I would really like to see a dyno comparison between someone that is not producing one of the products being compared . There is a dyno comparison of several different intakes on an RSX, a BPI stack w/ and w/o a filter was used with the k&N filter only restricting some on top (my memory might be a little fuzzy so try to search for the comparison)

I would not throw those filters on my car, I wouldn't trust the filtration of them at all.

What if you were to use a cold-air and threw on a k&n or any other good performance filter?

i'm not saying you're wrong, b/c i don't know what worked best for you. just curious though, how did it perform better than an aem or injen? dyno results?

i mean, it could be just that companies like aem and injen spend alot of money on r&d and advertising, and that alot of the price comes from the fact that you are paying for the NAME... but i doubt the ebay intakes are of similar quality when it comes to materials (tube, filter), welds, etc..

but if the ebay intake worked this well for you, i might be tempted to buy one instead of paying $130 for an aem short ram. but i would throw on a k&n filter if i got one

I just got a buddy with a shop to make me a 3" short ram for my dd and i put a arospeed filter at the end. thing sounds better than any intake ive heard. short ram is just a pipe with one bend, so i doubt theres much diffirence in power between brand and no name. get 3" for sure tho cause they sound nasty.

custom ftw
