Default Need Help.....

Ok i have a 92 EG LX Sedan 1.5 auto. I recently changed my radiator, new radiator cap, flushed the coolant, new thermostat, a few months ago i changed the fuel filter, disty cap, rotor button, wires and spark plugs. The problem i'm having is when i start my car it hesitates to start and when it does there is white smoke from the exhaust. After i get it started it bogs a little bit then it idles fine , but after about 5 minutes the idle drops to about 500 rpm and bogs bad. Then it stalls. Today i'm on my way home everything seemed fine until i pulled in my drive way, it started to bog again. I popped the hood then all of a sudden it stopped and exhaust fumes burned the **** out of my eyes.

I hope i detailed it enough, any help would be appreciated.

Thanks alot, James B.

Sounds like a big head gasket problem the EXACT same thing happened to me with my escort when I had it. I first noticed it when I was going down the highway and I'd depress the clutch to come to a stop and the car would stall out, then white smoke came out of the exhaust and the EGR valve. Ended up being the head gasket. And the bogged and hard starting symptoms sound just the same. You may want to consider a leakdown/compression test to know for sure but what you're describing deffinitely sounds like it.

Thats what i was afraid of. Now i got to decide if i want fix it or get rid of it. The engine has about 200,000. With the leakdown test what should the psi range be at?

A head gasket failure is no reason to get rid of a car/motor. It's not a bad fix. Just research for awhile, find some reliable directions and buy yourself a new head gasket. Not THAT hard to do.

Thats what i figured is a weekend to do the job. The question i have is, Is there a special replacement gasket to get or what?
I checked out advance and they range $120. Autozone is the same way. Any suggestions on where the best to get it or where to get.

I'd go to a Honda dealership if I were you.

Jeff Wyler Honda (in Colerain) sells them for $59.94.
